𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗮𝗻 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗹𝘆 𝗳𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 This March, four faith communities — Muslims, Baha’is, Jews, and Catholics — observed their fasting traditions side by side. 🤝 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲 Grateful to join Muslims, Buddhists, Christians, and Baha’is at the Baha’i Centre, sharing our breakfast and prayers across traditions. It was a living symbol of Singapore’s social cohesion! 🌍 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗘𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝘀𝘀 Each tradition carries its own richness, yet they converge on values of moderation, stewardship, and justice. These networks of faith and community can be harnessed to meet the sustainability, environmental, and social challenges of our time! ✨ 𝗣𝗹𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗺 𝗮𝘀 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗲 Diversity is not difference for its own sake, but a reservoir of wisdom. Across traditions, varied paths lead to the same goal: resilient, harmonious, values-driven communities. We were given the privilege of supporting Climate Interfaith at their International Car-Free Day a few months ago. A grand total of forty participants from eight faith communities came for the inaugural cycling day! 🌟 𝗗𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗸 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝘂𝘀𝗹𝗶𝗺 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘀 𝗦𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁 (𝗠𝗣𝗦) 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗔𝗹-𝗠𝗶𝘇𝗮𝗻 𝗦𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗽𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝟰𝟬𝟬 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲! 🌍 As COP30 enters its second week in Belém, Brazil, I reflect not just on the negotiations, but on the journey that brought me here. 🔙 My own journey began ten years ago with FiTree, led by Nur Khairiana Mohamad Malek. As a volunteer, I helped run water conservation campaigns rooted in Islamic teachings — reminding our community that even at a flowing river, the Prophet ﷺ taught us not to waste. That seed became a calling, a career, and now a mission. 💼 Today, I advise governments and institutions across Asia on climate resilience. Yet my deepest fulfilment comes from fusing technical expertise with community building, aligning faith with science, and empowering my community to act! 🌱This is why we created Al-Mizan Singapore under AMP Singapore: to empower our Muslim communities for sustainability in Singapore though ✅ Securing leadership commitment from faith institutions ✅ Fostering socio-economic empowerment ✅ Cultivating grassroots movements where policy falls short 🚀Since starting this year, we’ve already grown to 200 registered members — a testament to the hunger for faith-driven climate action in our community! ✨ Inspired by Al-Mizan: A Covenant for the Earth launched by UN Environment Programme led by Dr. Iyad Abumoghli whom I had the honour of meeting at COP29. The global document calls us to translate the principle of mīzān (balance) into action — grounding sustainability in values that endure. 🔁 From the roots at FiTree to new branches at Al-Mizan. This past week, I witnessed our planet’s custodians in their element at IUCN’s World Conservation Congress, and I want to loop you into the action! Throughout the congress, despite disheartening environmental news all around, the positivity was infectious. From a grand opening ceremony to packed sessions, from breakfasts with global leadership to bonding with fellow alumni, the congress was everything one could ask for and more. I’m grateful again to Nanyang Technological University Singapore’s NTU Asian School of the Environment for making this trip possible, and to our team at Urban Biodiversity Hub for making the trip so memorable! Here are some of my reflections from the ground: 1. Nature conservation methodologies are evolving, fast: Whether integrating sports to restore nature, through interfaith dialogue, or through creative financing mechanisms, it is no longer viable to work in silos. Institutions globally are collaborating to creatively solve these wicked problems, and there are dozens of ways to get involved. Drop me a note if you’re interested to learn more! 2. Nature as history and as culture: Our future is deeply informed and intertwined with our past. During the congress, sessions spanned from interfaith collaboration to cross-border leadership. We also celebrated the legacies of visionaries in the field through the The Jane Goodall Institute UAE and Kongjian Yu's through the China pavilion. Promoting nature as culture, I was also proud to represent our non-profit Climate Interfaith in Singapore as I presented my work on urban-nature restoration as pivotal for cultural regeneration. 3. Cities are stepping up to do their part: City-level and sub-national representatives from all over joined us to build capacity and learn how to systematically implement green and blue interventions in their unique urban environments. As a researcher at the Resilient and Inclusive Cities Lab and Asia Young Professional at Urban Biodiversity Hub, this was heartening to see, building confidence that our battle against nature loss will be won through in cities. Finally, I deeply recognized that systematic transformation begins at the scale of the individual. I was fascinated to learn further about nature-based education and UN’s Inner Development Goals share values similar to those of biomimicry which biosea.sg has championed in various ways.
