Grateful to have joined this panel yesterday as the investor voice in the room. One finding stayed with me: 97% of STI30 companies link their strategy to market conditions, but only 20% connect those same conditions to their principal risks. And just 43% have a clearly identified "why invest in us" section. These are Singapore's top 30 — companies with IR teams, analyst coverage and budget. If this is what the strongest end of the market looks like, the picture below the index deserves a serious look. That matters because of who is left holding the risk. When a company doesn't explain itself well, institutions simply walk away. Retail investors don't always have that discipline. Poor communication concentrates in the shareholder base least equipped to absorb it. Which is why I'd echo Securities Investors Association (Singapore)’s call in the foreword to extend this research to the Next50 and to mid and small caps. That's where the real work is. Thank you to Black Sun Asia Pacific and SGX Group for a genuinely useful piece of research, and to my fellow panellists for a candid conversation.
Today, Black Sun Asia Pacific proudly launched Unlocking Value Through Trust: STI30 Reporting and Communications Research alongside our partners at the Securities Investors Association (Singapore) at the SGX Auditorium. The session kicked off with an insightful presentation of the research findings, followed by a fireside chat with SGX Group on the Value Unlock Programme and a rich panel discussion that brought together a diverse spectrum of voices, offering candid perspectives on the challenges and opportunities shaping investor communications in Singapore today. A heartfelt thank you to our guest speakers, Mr Masayuki Ozaki (尾﨑 正幸), CFA from NTT DC REIT, Mr Melvin Tan Wei Yang (陈伟洋) from Securities Investors Association (Singapore), Mr Chong Lek Foong from SGListCos, and Mr Jeremy Sing from SGX Group, for generously sharing their knowledge and perspectives across the full spectrum of Singapore's market, from small-cap realities and retail investor advocacy to listed company engagement and capital market development. To everyone who joined us on the day, thank you for being part of what made the morning so memorable. Your presence, meaningful conversations, and generous sharing of perspectives made for a truly enriching session, and we are grateful for each and every one of you who took the time to be in the room with us. Stay tuned as we do a deeper dive and unpack more insights from the research in the coming weeks.
