Hong Kong is stepping back into global prominence as a strategic crypto hub — and 2026 is shaping up to be the year it accelerates. Polkadot is positioning itself early. In October, Polkaport East 波卡東港 formalized its partnership with the Office for Attracting Strategic Enterprises, a Hong Kong government initiative dedicated to bringing world-class innovators into the city. Stablecoin licensing, updated virtual-asset guidelines, and a clearer supervisory framework all point in the same direction: a market preparing for real institutional-grade blockchain infrastructure. And in Asia, when the rules solidify, capital and builders tend to follow. For Polkadot, this begins a deeper integration into Hong Kong’s financial and technological ecosystem heading into 2026. Through PolkaPort East, we’re establishing the on-the-ground presence, regulatory alignment, and institutional pathways that give developers and enterprises the certainty they need to build and scale onchain.

Coins.ph has launched a national stablecoin education initiative in the Philippines, supported by Polkadot infrastructure. It’s a move that reflects a deeper shift happening in Asia’s digital finance landscape: one where mature infrastructure is now quietly enabling high-impact, real-world use. The campaign spans major regions including Metro Manila, CALABARZON, and Central Luzon. These are high-volume remittance corridors, where the need for accessible, secure, and efficient financial tools is a part of daily life. By building on infrastructure that prioritizes both composability and security, Coins.ph is laying the groundwork for a more responsive financial layer—one that meets the expectations of both users and regulators. For Southeast Asia, it’s a signal that the financial architecture of the next decade may not come from retrofitting legacy systems, but from sovereign, modular networks already designed to handle scale, interoperability, and compliance from day one.

Polkadot has quietly evolved from an experimental concept into one of the most operationally resilient blockchain networks in the world. Today, the ecosystem processes 40-45 million transactions each month — a figure that reflects not speculation, but sustained, real-world activity across multiple domains, from DeFi and stablecoins to data infrastructure and enterprise applications. Stablecoin transfers on Polkadot cost a fraction of a cent, demonstrating both efficiency and scalability in a live production environment. Projects such as Hydration have expanded from approximately $5M to $500M in total value locked, while new initiatives like Hyperbridge and Mandala Chain are pushing the limits of what interoperable architecture can enable. Many blockchain ecosystems are still testing ideas. Polkadot is executing at scale.

Thailand is rapidly emerging as one of Asia’s most sophisticated crypto hubs. With over 70 million people, a clear regulatory framework, and a fast-maturing digital-asset market, it’s becoming a blueprint for compliant growth in the region. For example: 1️⃣ SEC Thailand approved the large dollar-pegged stablecoins Tether (USDT) and USD Coin (USDC) for trading on regulated exchanges in Thailand 2️⃣ The regulator is actively seeking public consultation on updated crypto listing rules, including more disclosure of related‐party issuers and tighter exchange-operator standards. 3️⃣ Thailand is piloting a crypto-to-baht conversion programme for foreign tourists Together, these developments position Thailand as one of the few APAC jurisdictions where regulation, infrastructure, and market demand are advancing in parallel. For institutions, this clarity changes everything. Capital deployment, settlement, and liquidity management all depend on frameworks that support verifiable, compliant infrastructure. When regulators demand provable settlement and operational transparency, architecture matters more than narrative. Polkadot’s shared-security model and cross-chain settlement architecture directly address institutional frictions — from bridge risk to fragmented liquidity — by enabling unified, verifiable settlement across multiple assets and chains. Infrastructure advantage matters most where regulatory frameworks actually exist. And in APAC, that advantage increasingly begins in Thailand. ⭕️

The next chapter of Polkadot’s builder ecosystem is here. The Polkadot Builder Party is live - a six-week global hackathon designed for developers who want to ship, not speculate. It’s a playground for builders who care about velocity, interoperability, and scale, without getting lost in infrastructure. For APAC, this is an inflection point. The region already leads in developer talent and experimentation, but access to frictionless tooling has often lagged behind ambition. Polkadot Cloud changes that. It lets builders move from idea to deployment in days, not months — whether you’re launching a cross-chain app, spinning up a blockchain with the Polkadot SDK, or testing new primitives in privacy and compute. The builders who show up now will shape the next phase of the ecosystem. For institutions, this means the Polkadot ecosystem is about to be supercharged with the next generation of apps and infrastructure to power the decentralized economy. Keep an eye on the results of this hackathon. Hear more from Tommi Enenkel, a core Polkadot contributer:

Hong Kong is re-emerging as one of the world’s most strategic crypto hubs — and Polkadot is planting a flag early. This month, Polkaport East 波卡東港 signed with Office for Attracting Strategic Enterprises - a Hong Kong government initiative designed to bring global innovators into the city’s fold. Hong Kong’s regulatory and economic climate is ready for serious, long-term blockchain infrastructure. The city’s direction has been unambiguous: tighten oversight, invite builders. From the stablecoin licensing regime to new virtual-asset guidelines, Hong Kong is crafting a regulatory foundation that gives clarity without killing innovation. And in Asia, clarity means capital. For Polkadot, this marks a deeper integration into the region’s financial and technological landscape. Through PolkaPort East, we’re creating the connective tissue - local presence, regulatory alignment, institutional access - that will let developers and enterprises build confidently on chain.
