When we analyze songs, the two main categories that we consider for translation are the reference... more When we analyze songs, the two main categories that we consider for translation are the reference level or propositional content and the aesthetic audible level (in this case, we will focus on rhyme and prosody). The question that we will explore in this study is: in the translation to a different language, which of the two aspects is in jeopardy and deserves more of the audio-visual translator’s attention? This study will explore the state of play regarding the translation and subtitling of songs in films and series, analyze the aspects and textual functions of music in context, the role of subtitles within the multimedial text and will inquire into the cognition process of the activity. In accordance to the results of a reception study, a possible approach will be recommended.
