🔋 How do we overcome the fluctuations in renewable energy and keep the grid stable as demand grows? The Weissenthurm-Kettig battery energy storage system (BESS) project in western Germany is part of the answer, and Tractebel is contributing its expertise to support its successful delivery. 🛠️ Tractebel is project manager for planning and permitting on this landmark BESS initiative, including construction supervision and coordination with local authorities. The project began in December 2024 and is expected to run through February 2027. ⚡ Commissioned by VERBUND, Austria’s leading energy company and one of the largest producers of hydroelectricity in Europe, the Weissenthurm-Kettig BESS is key to expanding Germany’s energy storage infrastructure and highlights the growing role of battery systems in enabling the #EnergyTransition. 🏗️ Spanning 8,000 m², the project includes 2,750 tons of precast reinforced concrete foundations, 17 medium-voltage supply units, two technical buildings, and a 300-m cable route connecting to the 110 kV grid. 🔄 With an output of 50 MW over two hours and a total storage capacity of approximately 123,000 kWh, the system will store excess electricity and release it during peak demand. 🔄 From India to Europe and back, our teams have been working closely together to strengthen collaboration on some of our most strategic nuclear and energy projects. 🤝 Last week, we had the pleasure of welcoming colleagues from India to our offices in Brussels and Saint-Ouen, France, for a week of engaging discussions with the management board of our Gas, Energy and Nuclear department. 🌍 These exchanges reflect how Tractebel delivers complex energy projects through international, multidisciplinary teams, bringing together complementary expertise from across regions to ensure the highest standards of quality, safety and innovation. ⚛️ Our colleagues in India contribute to major nuclear programs, and also support key energy initiatives such as battery energy storage systems (BESS). ✈️ Earlier this year, this collaboration was further strengthened when Loïc REVEL and Simon DUVAL spent three weeks in India working closely with the team to enhance competences to work on nuclear projects. 🌍 Can climate resilience create business value? A new IFC - International Finance Corporation report developed by AXA Climate with Scientific Climate Ratings suggests it can. The study, with contributions from Tractebel, shows how targeted adaptation measures can reduce climate-related losses, improve infrastructure performance and protect asset value. Tractebel was proud to contribute engineering expertise to the power transmission case study in Brazil, supporting the assessment of climate risks and adaptation measures for critical infrastructure.
