Accurately estimating and controlling future system states is a demand of growing importance (i.e... more Accurately estimating and controlling future system states is a demand of growing importance (i.e. predictive maintenance). This article describes a new way of continuous real-time forecasting with the application in semiconductor industry. This new concept of information processing is quantum-physically inspired, enabling best algorithmic efficiency for the first time. The goal is to create physically grounded structures of smart manufacturing but also enable more efficient grounding for further advanced technologies like deep learning or AI systems. An often discussed question is whether the available information systems fulfill the user demands as good as possible. This requires robust architectural patterns, well-controlled data structuring, and avoidance of undesired complexity on all levels. Those systems have to deal with an at least quadratic complexity O(n2). This may cause long response times. Additionally, algorithms or ad-hoc user interrogations may become even more complex. The proposed methodology scales this quadratic (or higher) complexity down to linear complexity in terms of providing most efficient system performance to any kind of user interrogation.

Basic use cases and business drivers will be highlighted, and some insight will be given into a new and mathematically grounded system and methodology. Influences of database technologies will be discussed, and the research system of TU Dresden database group will be introduced. This is followed by a rough comparison with prior art systems, which highlights advantages of the new concept. This approach substantiates some core concepts of “Industrie 4.0”.

The text expands on a proposal for an ontology of information, which will be grounded in physics. Shannon's communication theory does not conceptualize any physical variable. It will be shown that by doing so the gap between syntax and semantics can be closed by introducing the universal category of triadic information. Any informational scenario is given by the trias of a) a sender, and of b) the transformation, which happens to c) the receiver. The concept of information is taken in a broader sense, and is based on physical fundaments. The gravitational force which is exploited to a physical body holds in the same sense well defined information as a spontaneous appearance of a new, algorithmically underivable structure or event: the world gets 'completed' within a continuous informational process. Any spontaneous process will always happen in order to increase the entropy of the world. That is, such fundamental information, which causes this completion process, is given within our universe. For those reasons we have to state, that information causes any causal process, rather than 'is' a causal process. All living species are grounded on an information-receiving, heteronomous deep structure, which includes as well the message which corresponds to further autonomy and freedom (the completion theorem). To summarize, we are enabled to create and to enter into the so called information society by ontological evidence. Based on such foundations, an adequate concept for computer science will be shortly introduced.

Over the last years, Infineon Dresden Technologies has continuously been working on offering inno... more Over the last years, Infineon Dresden Technologies has continuously been working on offering innovative products and enhancing the productivity of their wafer fabrication areas by increasing fab capacities as well as increasing automation in their 200 and 300 mm wafer manufacturing plants to improve productivity. One of the most important success factors is use of powerful automated material handling systems (AMHS) combined with the digitization of core processes within the whole company. Digitization supports converting a highly automated fab into a "smart fab" by horizontal and vertical integration of the internal supply chains. Within this paper, the authors provide an overview of three use cases for continuous improvement of the manufacturing process through use of automation and digitization to enhance the profitability of the semiconductor manufacturing plant.

ABSTRACT Automation strategies are confronted with two different trends: increasing equipment int... more ABSTRACT Automation strategies are confronted with two different trends: increasing equipment integration capability into information and material flow concepts, and production process complexity increasing at least at the same speed. In our CIM framework, bottom-up oriented integration of material flow automation is added to traditional top-down oriented production planning, simulating and scheduling scenarios. We introduce a simple mechanism to adjust and control material flow by answering the question of who/which instance is responsible for introducing the basic activity in the production system. There is some evidence (also reported by Hoop and Spearman, 1996) to dedicate this activity to the production equipment (equipment calls for lots). In order to optimize contradictory goals like tool utilization and in-time-delivery, we move from the traditional push principle to a pull principle. At Infineon, a conveyor based transport system running open cassettes is used that covers both interand intra-bay transportation. Its advantages are the (almost) infinite capacity and the immediate start of any transport job. In particular, the concept of direct tool delivery gives evidence that a continuous workflow is a key issue for production optimization. Based on this approach, we introduce an automation concept covering both equipment and transport control by structuring our production system into functional automation layers in order to reduce complexity. Our interest for newness, our curiosity in the new, will be considered as a main building block of information, and of reality itself. A typical definition of information (the reduction of uncertainty) needs to be fundamentally inverted: Information is a compositional activity, including the inconsistent, the paradox, the contradiction and the incoherent meaning. This study expands on the analysis of the composition of new structure (new macrophysical laws), and the analysis of the causality and causal state of such structures ("causally active symbols"). The classical, scientific-objective, passive understanding of information gives meaning to the fact that modern information technology does not by itself lead to an increase of human values. However, our social and moral stance is an informational one, and our informational, active conscious process holds the power to mediate and to enforce this process towards an enriched life. The indicator for such enrichment is given to us by information, and the knowledge about this process will feed us with energy to move towards an active spirit of ethics, and towards the information society. Part I of this study expands on the fundament basis and on our intrinsic responsibility to release the forces that are based on the active dimension of information. Those forces are required in order to reveal the so-called information society from its metaphorical character (Part II).

We are moving towards the information society, and we need to overcome the discouraging perspecti... more We are moving towards the information society, and we need to overcome the discouraging perspective, which is caused by the false belief that our thoughts (and thereby also our acting) represent a somehow externally existing world. Indeed, it is already a step forward to proclaim that there exists a somehow common world for all people. But if those internal forms of representation are primarily bound to the subject itself, then, consequently, anybody can argue for his or her view of the world as being the "right" one. Well, what is the exit strategy out of this dilemma? It is information; information as understood in its actual and potential dimension, in its identity of structure and meaning. Such an approach requires a deeper elaborated conceptual approach. The goal of this study is to show that such a concept is glued by the strong relationship between seemingly unrelated disciplines: physics, semantics (semiotics/cognition) and computer science, and even poetry. But the terminus of information is nowadays discussed and elaborated in all those disciplines. Hence, there is no shortcut, no way around. The aim of this study is not even to show that those strong relationships exist. We will see within the same horizon that, based on such a concept, new kinds of computing systems are becoming possible. Nowadays energy consumption is becoming a major issue regarding computing systems. We will work towards an approach, which enables new devices consuming a minimum amount of energy and maximizing the performance at the same time. And within the same horizon it becomes possible to release the saved energy towards a new ethical spirit-towards the information society.

In most cases these models are not provided by equipment manufacturers and therefore must be constructed by analysts (process engineers) based on log files. The construction of such models is a very time-consuming process that is impeded by the unknown structure of the events in the logs. The approach presented in this paper aims to automate the process of model construction by combining finite state machine generation with event text analysis.
