To achieve this, the EU has to decarbonize its energy supply, integrate the fragmented national energy markets into a smooth functioning and coherent European system, and set up a framework that allows the effective coordination of national states efforts. The paper deals with situation on the wooden biomass market in the frame of the Slovak Republic, and, marginally in a broader, the Central-European context. Monitoring Changes in Consumer Requirements for Wood Products in Terms of Consumer Behavior

This paper is aimed at the monitoring of the changes in selected consumer requirements for wood p... more This paper is aimed at the monitoring of the changes in selected consumer requirements for wood products in terms of consumer behavior in the years 2004 and 2014. Based on the comparison of observed consumers’ behavior requirements for wood products obtained by a questionnaire survey and a constructed Kano model, we found out significant changes in consumers’ requirements mainly regarding the price and quality using the measurement of the rate of satisfaction and dissatisfaction of customers with predefined wood products parameters. At the present, price is no longer the most significant factor because the rate of dissatisfaction of consumers with the price of wood products significantly decreased by 35% while maintaining a similar level of satisfaction. The satisfaction with products quality increased by 80% followed by a decrease in dissatisfaction by 25%. This is particularly relevant to the traditional sectors such as forestry and forest-based industry that are expected to play an important role in the future steps oriented towards meeting the sustainable development goals. The main aim of this study is to analyse the stakeholders’ perceptions of the innovation trends in the forestry and forest-based sectors by using a Q-methodology. This research addressed three groups of respondents in Slovakia, whose task was to subjectively assess innovative trends in the forestry and forest-based sectors. Based on the results it can be concluded that the innovation trend in the forestry and forest-based sectors will be oriented towards the technological progress focused on the increasing efficiency of wood processing and increasing the usability of waste material as well as the trend of increasing development of innovations in the forest recreation services.

Comparative analysis of wood and semi-finished wood product trade of Slovakia and its Central European trading partners

The aim of this paper was analyse the competitiveness of wood and semi-finished wood products in ... more The aim of this paper was analyse the competitiveness of wood and semi-finished wood products in Slovakia in comparison with selected Central European countries. The research applied the commonly used competitiveness index, the Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA) index, to analyse the position and changes in trade competitiveness of Slovakia during the period 2009-2013. Additionally, the Comparative Price Level (CPL) index was used to evaluate the differences in foreign trade prices for industrial roundwood and selected semifinished wood products in order to examine the position of the Slovak wood and wood product trade. The results showed that Slovakia had the strongest comparative advantage in the trade in industrial roundwood due to its sufficient wood resources and competitive prices.
