A significant step forward for a UK captive regime. The Prudential Regulation Authority (PRA) and Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) have published detailed proposals for the regulation of captive insurers in the UK, including a new proportionate and tailored regime outside of Solvency UK. The proposals cover key areas including capital requirements, governance, permitted lines of business and a streamlined authorisation process. Airmic CEO Diane Maxwell said: “We welcome this important step forward towards establishing a competitive UK captive regime. The detail set out by the PRA and FCA, including a streamlined authorisation process and a proportionate regulatory approach, is encouraging and reflects many of the priorities that Airmic and our members have consistently highlighted. “We look forward to continuing to work with the regulators, alongside our members, partners and the wider captive community, to help ensure the final regime is competitive, proportionate and, importantly, works in practice for businesses looking to establish and operate captives in the UK.” The consultation closes on 14 October 2026. The socks have spoken. The judges have reached their verdict. Claer Barrett, Consumer Editor, Financial Times, and Patrick Jenkins, Deputy Editor, Financial Times, judged a fiercely competitive field of entries. 🥇 1st Place – Asif Shah "Skyline" – The judges were impressed by multiple bands of clashing colours, plus tangential relevance to the insurance profession, depicting a skyline of office towers no doubt containing hard-working insurance brokers busy underwriting. The winner by a toenail. 🥈 2nd Place – Richard Cutcher "Football" – The judges appreciated this topical choice of sock, and imagined the wearer would go incognito in the office, but then hitch up his breeches in the pub whilst watching the World Cup with a pale ale. 🥉 Joint 3rd Place – Jason Beelders, CNA Hardy "Hidden" – The judges admired the quiet rebellion of the wearer, who appeared to be wearing conservative black hose until, once unshod, revealed a foot clad in technicolour that would rival the BBC 2 Testcard. 🥉 Joint 3rd Place – "ZEBRAS" – Mystery Sock Wearer The judges were moved by the animal spirits on display here and the clarity of thought vital in an underwriter who needs to judge things in black and white. *The zebra socks have been identified as prize-worthy. The wearer, however, remains at large. Please identify yourself to claim your prize.* Congratulations to all of our winners, and thank you to everyone who took part in Airmic's inaugural Sock Competition. #Airmic2026 #RiskManagement #Insurance

Last night proved that the business continuity profession is just as good at celebrating resilience as it is at delivering it. The CIR Business Continuity Awards were a brilliant reminder of the talent, innovation and expertise that exists across our industry — and of the value of coming together to recognise it. A huge thank you to the organisers and hosts for a fantastic evening. Congratulations to all the winners and finalists; the standard on display was exceptional. A special thank you to our brilliant table companions: Deborah Ritchie, Hoe-Yeong Loke, David Aynsley-Smyth, Colm O'Keeffe, Kristina Charles, City of London Corporation and, of course, Roger Payne MSc, MBCI,. Great company, great conversation and a thoroughly enjoyable evening. And a special mention to LUCY PORTER, who had the room laughing from start to finish. The risk, resilience and business continuity community knows how to celebrate as well as collaborate, and last night was a wonderful example of both. We're looking forward to seeing many of you again at the ALARM, embrace risk Conference in Manchester next week — especially Chris Walker! Congratulations once again to all the winners and thank you to everyone who made it such a memorable evening.

The standard of sockmanship on display has exceeded all expectations, and we're now entering the highly competitive phase of the inaugural Airmic Sock Competition. We wish our judges the very best of luck. They're going to need it!
So despite an EXTENSIVE multi-channel campaign it would appear that news of our first ever Airmic conference sock competition has not spread far enough! However, it would appear that sock excellence is among us and thriving. A reminder that Claer Barrett, Consumer Editor at the FT and Patrick Jenkins, Deputy Editor of the FT are our final judges. Some shortlisted entries….
