Everyone experiences space differently. That's why sensory design starts with understanding how people experience the world around them. By bringing together expertise in acoustics, lighting, thermal comfort, experience design and other specialist disciplines, we can better understand human experience and create places that work for a wider range of people. Sensory design showcases the value of a multidisciplinary approach, helping clients see, hear and feel the impact of design decisions before they're made. Learn more: https://bit.ly/4b0xKaZ

How does the energy transition really play out across Europe? Not through one solution or in one place, but through local projects and partnerships driving change on the ground. Emine Kazanç, who leads our energy business in Türkiye, shares how local insight and global expertise are helping accelerate the country’s energy transition. Watch how we supported Akfen Yenilenebilir Enerji in advancing its solar and battery energy storage (BESS) assets, helping unlock renewable energy growth: https://bit.ly/4w5vk39

How do you create a new civic landmark for one of the world’s most dynamic cities? At the centre of Hong Kong’s major urban regeneration of the former Kai Tak Airport site, Kai Tak Sports Park is a new destination for sport, entertainment and community life. At its heart sits the 50,000-seat Kai Tak Stadium, designed as an iconic new landmark looking out across Victoria Harbour. Its shimmering façade of 27,000 triangular aluminium panels draws inspiration from Hong Kong’s identity as the Pearl of the Orient, while a retractable roof, stadium cooling system and flexible seating with an innovative stage pocket system all allow the venue to host world-class sporting fixtures, concerts and major events year-round. The result is a highly adaptable stadium as part of an extensive sports park designed to serve both the city and its community for decades to come. #WeAreArup

Today, we're celebrating three colleagues featured in the 2026 Empower Role Model Lists supported by YouTube. Run by INvolve - The Inclusion People, the lists recognise individuals helping to create more inclusive workplaces and supporting the success of professionals from global ethnic majority backgrounds. Rachel Taylor, recognised in the Empower Future Leaders Role Model List, has championed inclusion through leadership, mentorship and advocacy. Rachel established the Inclusion Allies network, helped drive greater engagement in diversity and inclusion initiatives, and has supported colleagues to progress in their careers. Hari Patel, recognised in the Empower Future Leaders Role Model List, has helped build an inclusive and supportive community through Arup's ConnectRace network. Through creative engagement, self-advocacy initiatives and platforms that celebrate diverse voices, Hari has helped create opportunities for colleagues to connect, contribute and thrive. Jim Bell, recognised in the Empower Advocates Role Model List, has demonstrated the impact of visible allyship in practice. Through mentoring, sponsorship and championing race inclusion initiatives, Jim has helped turn conversations into action and create spaces where colleagues feel heard, valued and supported. We congratulate Rachel, Hari and Jim on this well-deserved recognition. How can AI turn existing data into smarter water networks that leads to actionable insights?  In Gloucester, we partnered with tech start-up InfoTiles Digital Water and Severn Trent Water to unlock new insights to better understand Inflow & Infiltration (I&I) across the wastewater network. By analysing telemetry, rainfall, river gauge data, and pump activity, we were able to understand where the greatest I&I was located throughout the catchment. AI models quantify I&I by volume, cost and CO₂ impact, while smarter use of existing data reduces the need for new infrastructure and sensors, creating a holistic view of the catchment. This enables targeted, high-impact investment that supports reduced costs and smarter decision-making for a more resilient network. Learn more: https://bit.ly/4b1sHHk

As soon as a city wins a bid to host a FIFA World Cup or Olympic & Paralympic Games, the starting gun is fired on getting ready to welcome the world. The first hurdle faced is funding early planning. We spoke to leaders of the world’s biggest events over the past twenty years to crystallize the main priorities and challenges that host cities face the moment that the fireworks fade and ticker tape is being swept away. They all agreed that the early planning secures the best possible long-term benefit for a city and its residents, the strongest legacy. Although in most cases, host cities are caught in a trap of needing to produce a robust plan to secure this starter funding and having insufficient funding to produce a strong enough plan that ensures success. To help host cities with this challenge, we have identified four new routes to starter funding for cities hosting major events. Our ‘Planning for legacy first’ report also sets out a supporting case to enable cities to start a conversation with these potential investors. Our report will contribute to the strategic thinking of the World Economic Forum Sports Economy community, launching in New York today, ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026™ - Canada, Mexico and the United States final. We look forward to working with this community and future host cities to ensure the biggest and most popular events in the world continue to evolve to deliver deep and significant economic and social legacy for generations to come. #WeAreArup

Can only new builds meet ESG goals? Retrofit projects can meet, and often exceed, strong ESG criteria, delivering better spaces for people while protecting the planet. "We've worked on some great retrofit projects where we've achieved really strong ESG criteria. On Smithdon School we've created spaces that are better for people whilst also taking care of the planet, and on Castle Meadow Campus we've created an ambitious sustainable framework that really drives sustainability and ESG right across the works" says Will James, Sustainable Buildings Lead. Explore how retrofit can meet, and exceed, ESG goals while unlocking commercial value: https://bit.ly/4eZw4Rx #Retrofit #Decarbonisation #Sustainability

How structural ingenuity allows you to realise architecturally driven design. The BanBajío Headquarters is a campus scale development combining a high-rise tower and a long-span amenities building above five stories of below-grade parking, all designed such that the structural system is architecturally expressed. The tower’s exposed diagrid and shear walls provide the structure and are integrated into the architecture. Inside the tower, 15 metre clear spans between facades creates column free interiors for fully flexible fit out. The amenities building has its own structural form, achieving the column-free architectural ambition to create open spaces for people to meet, gather, and share ideas. The structure primarily uses exposed and stacked full-story concrete walls, with concrete framed floors and long span steel framing where it provides efficiency above a large commissary and auditorium. This project highlights how Arup’s expertise in structural engineering and interdisciplinary coordination can achieve striking, architecturally driven designs. What if solar power could be stored and used exactly when needed? We're delighted to be supporting Akfen Renewable Energy in delivering integrated solar PV and battery energy storage systems (BESS), helping to create a more resilient energy network and accelerate the shift to cleaner power. Acting as Owner's Engineer, we are helping de-risk the delivery of two of Türkiye's pioneering solar-plus-storage projects. From technical specification and EPC procurement to detailed design review, construction oversight and performance monitoring, our role is to help ensure these assets are delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest international standards By combining renewable energy generation with storage, the project will provide a more reliable and flexible supply of electricity, supporting communities while helping to meet long-term sustainability goals. Projects like this are a key step in shaping a low‑carbon future, where clean energy isn't just generated, but stored and used when it matters most. Discover more about how this project is helping unlock the full potential of solar: https://lnkd.in/dd6REggu
