At Autumna, we know how important it is for older people and their families to feel informed, supported and less alone when navigating later life. That is why Adopt a Grandparent’s work matters so much. A weekly video call may sound simple, but for many residents it can become something to look forward to. A familiar face. A shared joke. A conversation about football, music, travel, family or memories from years gone by. For volunteers, it is a chance to learn from another generation and build a friendship they may never have expected. It's hard to argue with this! Transparency and trust are becoming one of the most influential differentiators for care seekers. A care home that is prepared to be open and transparent, creates trust. I was speaking to the daughter of newly moved in resident on Monday and I asked her why she had chosen the home, even though it had an old Requires Improvement CQC rating. She told me "I can see the rating is over 3 years old and I can see the care home has improved. They are using OpenScore so they have confidence in the quality of the care they are delivering and they have had over 100 live reviews in the last 30 days - I think every visitor has left a great review score and that speaks volumes!"
