📡 As AI infrastructure scales, fibre optic networks are becoming just as critical as power and processors. Amazon has signed a multibillion-dollar agreement with Corning to expand US fibre manufacturing, strengthening the supply chain that supports hyperscale data centres and cloud infrastructure. The investment will create more than 1,000 skilled manufacturing jobs in North Carolina, expand optical fibre production capacity and support workforce development through specialist training programmes. Matt Garman, CEO of AWS, said the partnership continues Amazon's commitment to investing in American manufacturing, workforce development and long-term infrastructure growth. Wendell Cothran, Chairman, CEO and President of Corning Incorporated, described the agreement as a significant milestone that will help expand production, create advanced manufacturing jobs and strengthen the resilience of the US supply chain. As demand for AI and cloud services accelerates, securing critical infrastructure components such as optical fibre is becoming an increasingly strategic priority.
