Nearly half of people in Britain spend more than 18 hours a week on the sofa – yet 70% say they want to be more active. Today, we're launching Sofa to Saddle – a free, eight-week programme from British Cycling and Lloyds Banking Group to help more people discover the joy of cycling. The free to use app, developed in partnership with Elixirr, provides practical guidance, builds confidence and tackles many of the barriers that stop people getting on a bike. The benefits of getting started are significant. Our research shows that people who cycle at least once a week are 37% more likely to feel good about themselves, while 79% say cycling helps clear their head and 58% feel calmer and more relaxed. As Darren Henry, Managing Director of British Cycling Ventures, says: "Our research highlights that the appetite to get on a bike is there, and Sofa to Saddle is part of the solution. It is proven to make people feel better about themselves. Now, we have a way to support and enable people to take those first steps in ways which work for them." By making cycling more accessible and supporting people to take those first pedal strokes, Sofa to Saddle is part of our ambition to help one million more people get on their bikes by 2028, creating healthier, happier communities across Britain. The unveiling of the Bayeux Tapestry at the The British Museum marks a new chapter in the unique, shared history of our two nations. This is a victory for friendship, diplomacy and collaboration. A huge thank you to the curators and experts from both sides of the channel who have helped us bring this extraordinary artifact back to our shores for the first time in nearly 1000 years. Money in the Impact Economy tackles social and environmental challenges and is currently valued at £106 billion in the UK. The government’s ‘Our Place to Give’ strategy seeks to take this further, recognising the role philanthropy can play alongside business and government to help tackle local challenges and unlock growth. By working together, we can strengthen communities and support opportunity in every part of the UK. #OurPlacetoGive #Philanthropy Stephanie Peacock MP Steve Morgan Foundation

I was pleased to attend the all party group on Tackling Loneliness & Connected Communities to discuss how this government is prioritising Social Connection for All. Thank you to everyone who attended from across Parliament and all the charities and groups who came along too. Loneliness is not just an individual struggle; it is a national challenge. It can be experienced by anyone at any time and that is why this government is making increasing social connections the golden thread running through everything we do.

Music belongs to everyone. Not just people whose parents can afford lessons. Not just those lucky enough to grow up in the right postcode. Everyone. We’re backing talent, opening up opportunity, and making sure no child is locked out of music because of where they come from or what their parents earn. - Lisa Nandy MP We are turning those words into action with Turn it Up: our Plan for Music. 🎸 £45m to back grassroots music, supporting thousands of artists, venues and music businesses. 📚 Turning libraries into music lending libraries with £12.5m, working with @edsheeranfnd so access to music in the community is for all. 💛 £10m for creative mentoring for children in care, because we know that music can sustain them at the most difficult times in their lives. These opportunities should be the expectation, not the exception. 🎟️ Banning ticket resale above face value, because time is up for ticket touts causing fans misery. We are on your side.
