After losing her job and her flat, Stevie* spent 10 days sleeping on the streets before finding out about her local EveryYouth charity, The Amber Foundation. Through workshops, volunteering and support, Stevie gained new certificates and rebuilt her confidence. 🗣 “I feel positive about my life now I can see an end goal. Andy Burnham's first speech as Prime Minister put the spotlight firmly on homelessness as he pledged to end rough sleeping and get people off the streets 'at the earliest opportunity'.   ⚠️ In the last ten years, at least four of our seven prime ministers have pledged to end rough sleeping - all have failed. The numbers of people rough sleeping has increased, so too has the number of young people experiencing homelessness. To stop rough sleeping, we have to address youth homelessness. This week's article in The Times, Laura Noble: I’m so grateful to the charity that gave me a chance, is a brilliant example of why we need to shift the focus away from simply ending rough sleeping. Laura's story shows the constructive difference we can have for homeless young people when someone believes in, and supports their potential.    EveryYouth knows that preventing homelessness isn’t just about providing a roof over a young person’s head. Earlier this year, we started working with a talented group of students at Ravensbourne University London to design a billboard highlighting EveryYouth’s work. Our Project Flourish Lead, Michelle Blackburn, was delighted to attend and celebrate the achievements of young people who have completed the Barnardo's JOBS Project.    The 10-week employability programme, delivered in partnership with Amazon, is designed to equip young people with the skills, knowledge and confidence they need to secure employment.    🗣️ Michelle says: "We're incredibly proud to work alongside Amazon and Barnardo's to support young people experiencing homelessness. On completion of the JOBS Project, those who have gone on to receive a permanent job offer from Amazon will have access to Project Flourish, delivered in collaboration with Hays, helping them to sustain employment and build long-term independence. ⚠️ Finding a job has never been more competitive. Entry-level opportunities have fallen, while the number of applicants for each role has almost doubled in recent years. But for young people experiencing or at risk of homelessness, the barriers go far beyond the job market. Our recent insight report produced in partnership with Catalyst Lex Limited, The £100 Barrier, explores some of these challenges, including:  👉 Trauma and poor mental health, making the idea of starting work feel overwhelming 👉 Balancing employment with independent living and navigating complex benefit systems  👉 Long waits for English and Maths courses, particularly for refugees and asylum seekers  👉 Lack of financial resources for clothes, travel, equipment, ID, educational certificates or living costs Last year, an average Boost through EveryYouth Employed was £109 - enough to cover travel, workwear, course costs or technology that enable a young person to take their next step. For many young people who have experienced homelessness, starting a new job isn’t just about learning a new role. They may also be moving into independent accommodation, managing their finances for the first time, and rebuilding confidence after experiencing trauma.  💡 That’s why Psychologically Informed Environments (PIE) can make a real difference. PIE is an evidence-based approach that helps organisations create psychologically safe workplaces where people can feel supported to learn, grow and succeed. 👋 Meet Ryan. Ryan felt lonely growing up; he didn’t have a great relationship with his foster family and felt like he was losing a lot of his friends when he realised he didn’t want to be part of the things they were doing.  He felt his future was very bleak until he received support from his local EveryYouth charity, The Benjamin Foundation.     They helped him move into his own place, manage bill payments and learn essential life skills. He was also introduced to a job coach.       💬 Ryan says: “I always had long term aspirations of joining the police force and was in the process of applying.
