    There is a lot of talk about how AI is transforming the way we work and live. If you strip away the noise, how are people actually using these tools right now? This week, Google published its first iteration of the AI & Economy ATLAS, an ongoing, large-scale study of how people are using Google’s AI products across 150 countries and 800 occupations. To make sense of this quickly moving landscape, the team used Google DeepMind’s Observation Clustering and Taxonomy Organisation (OCTO). OCTO allowed us to take massive, unstructured text data and distill it into clear, organised trends, all while applying the strictest privacy protections and removing sensitive information. While this is just a snapshot of a moment in time, here are a few things we're learning that challenge some common assumptions: - AI use at work is broad, but shallow: People are using AI selectively. In a typical job, AI is used for only about 21% of tasks. - It's a blue-collar tool, too: We are seeing industrial mechanics and tradespeople use conversational AI as a live collaborator to interpret complex test results or debug wiring. - The "life admin" assistant: A massive amount of AI use (over 86%) happens outside the office, helping people tackle household friction like researching purchases or licensing. Understanding how people actually interact with AI in the real world is one of the most critical steps in deploying it responsibly - and here we have possibly the world's most comprehensive study on AI and the economy. By combining speed and efficiency, 3.5 Flash Cyber lets defense specialists check significantly more code paths. In testing on our own codebases – including Google Chrome and Android – it consistently caught complex, unique vulnerabilities that standard models missed.     It’s been five years since the #AlphaFold Database made protein structure predictions free for everyone to use. This was only possible thanks to a close collaboration with Google DeepMind. Today, the database contains more than 260 million predicted protein structures, covering nearly all catalogued proteins known to science. Over 3.5 million researchers in 190 countries use the database to inform their research, to plan their next experiment, or to develop new hypotheses. Scientists around the world are using the database to help make a difference, from tackling antimicrobial resistance and developing disease-resistant crops to understanding heart disease and engineering plastic-eating enzymes.

  • We’re rolling out three new models to make AI agents faster, smarter, and cheaper at scale: 🔵 Gemini 3.6 Flash: It uses fewer tokens than 3.5 Flash to deliver higher quality work at the exact same cost. 🔵 Gemini 3.5 Flash-Lite: A fast, cost-effective option for everyday tasks like processing documents and agentic search. 🔵 Gemini 3.5 Flash Cyber: A cybersecurity model built to find and patch critical software vulnerabilities. Gemini 3.6 Flash and 3.5 Flash-Lite are rolling out now in the Gemini app. Developers can start building via the API in Google AI Studio and Android Studio. Gemini 3.5 Flash Cyber will be exclusively available via CodeMender soon as part of a limited-access pilot program.

    Yesterday marked the first time we’ve brought ARIA Creators together with researchers from our Activation Partner Google DeepMind and Google Research for a dedicated day exploring how AI could accelerate scientific discovery. We started with small roundtables focused on gaps in researchers’ current toolkits, followed by rapid-fire talks spanning hypothesis generation, literature synthesis and computational discovery, through to genomics, robotics, Earth observation and weather forecasting. The afternoon closed with a candid conversation between leaders from ARIA and Google DeepMind about the opportunities — and difficult questions — at the intersection of AI and science. What made the day especially valuable was the exchange in both directions: researchers sharing what they need, and frontier lab teams opening up the tools, expertise and questions shaping their work. This was a first step that could help set a blueprint for how ambitious researchers and frontier labs work together: earlier, more openly and around real scientific challenges.
