Heat pumps are becoming an increasingly common feature of new homes across Great Britain. In Q1 2026, heat pumps were installed in 40% of new-build completions in Wales, 31% in England and 23% in Scotland. Year on year, heat pump installations in new build properties increased by 38% in Q1 2026 compared with Q1 2025. With the Future Homes and Building Standard on the horizon in England and the New Build Heat Standard already in place in Scotland, these figures highlight how the market is ramping up installations of low carbon heating in new homes as standard. Last week, we published new recommendations to Government and the sector to accelerate the deployment of heat pump-driven low-carbon heat networks 🚀 The paper calls for: ✅ Regulatory recognition of shared ground loops and ambient heat networks ✅ Support for coordinated, area-wide rollout ✅ Targeted funding for heat pump-led networks ✅ Streamlined drilling permits and investment in skills As Dr Joel Hamilton PhD, Heat Pump Association UK (HPA UK) Technical Consultant, said: "Heat pump-driven heat networks are one of the most practical and cost-effective routes to decarbonising heat at scale... with the right policies and support, the UK has a genuine opportunity to make heat pump-driven heat networks a cornerstone of its clean heat transition." HPA UK Chief Executive Charlotte Lee had the pleasure of visiting Advance Appliances ltd' manufacturing facility in Walsall and see first-hand the expertise, investment and skilled workforce behind the production of hot water cylinders here in the UK.   As a valued Full member of Heat Pump Association UK (HPA UK), Advance Appliances is part of the UK supply chain helping to deliver the technologies needed to support the transition to clean heating.   Hot water cylinders are an important complementary technology to heat pumps, storing thermal energy for use when it's needed and helping to improve system flexibility and efficiency. 🚨 New Guidance: Unvented Hot Water Systems - Regulatory Compliance Explained Heat Pump Association UK (HPA UK) and the Hot Water Association (HWA) have jointly published a new free guide to help installers, specifiers and manufacturers understand the requirements of Approved Document G3 and the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations for unvented hot water systems. As heat pump deployment accelerates, the guide provides clear, practical answers to frequently asked questions. The publication covers key compliance requirements, installer responsibilities, approved control strategies and the importance of following manufacturers’ instructions to ensure safe installations. Ambition for heat networks growth could be jeopardised if policy doesn't catch up. We've published new recommendations highlighting the need for greater regulatory clarity, targeted funding and stronger policy recognition for heat pump-driven low-carbon heat networks. With heat networks expected to grow from around 3% of UK heat demand today to 20% by 2050, recognising the role of shared ground loops, ambient heat networks and the drilling infrastructure that supports them will be critical to scaling deployment.
