This week, a wildfire has torn through Dunwich Heath in Suffolk, leaving the entire nature reserve devastated. An area of around 210 football pitches has been affected with rare habitats and wildlife lost in a matter of hours. As climate change and extreme weather puts more pressure on the places we all love, landscapes like this are becoming increasingly vulnerable. Protecting nature doesn't end when the flames go out and our teams are already planning the long road to restoring this precious habitat. We have the BEST (and cutest) news for you… A puffin chick has been spotted in Dorset for the first time in 30 years! The puffling was peeping out from a deep crevice on the sheer cliff, where the last breeding colony of puffins on mainland England’s south coast is clinging to survival. The sighting followed more than 15 weeks of monitoring by volunteers as they watched the adult puffins courting, mating, carrying nesting material and, since late-May, delivering fish to the nests hidden deep within the crevice. It has given fresh hope for the future of Dorset’s dwindling puffin population. Good luck little puffling ❤️ 📷️: Martin Shaw

Help famers restore nature: Support farmers to use public money for public goods, such as restoring nature and preparing for the changing climate 2. Clean up our rivers: Revive and protect waterways from source to sea through a strong Clean Water Bill 3. Grow private investment in nature: And use public money to crowd in billions more 4. Create places rich in nature and heritage: Improve people’s lives by making places to be proud of, using funding and devolved powers to do so 5. Don’t weaken planning protections: Properly consider the impacts of the new NPPF (National Planning Policy Framework) on nature and heritage 6. After planting over 10 million trees since 2020…we’re pleased to announce our national Trees for Climate programme is carrying on for the next four years! 🌲 A significant new partnership between England’s Community Forests, the National Trust, The Woodland Trust, and Community Forest Trust will be pushing the programme forward, working together to unlock long-term environmental, social, and economic impacts 💚 Funded through the national Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Trees Programme, Trees for Climate has planted over 35% of all Government-funded tree planting since 2020, which in turn is having a significant impact on community access to nature, flood prevention, carbon sequestration, nature recovery, local and national economies, and supporting green jobs.
