Plastic-Free July team litter pick 2026. Once you start looking, you can't stop noticing. Most of us think about plastic bottles, plastic bags and coffee cups. But spend just 30 minutes looking a little closer and you start spotting something else entirely. Items used for seconds, the ones hiding in plain sight. Packaging and everyday objects that have become so normal, we barely notice them anymore. Crisp packets, vapes, energy gel sachets and even plastic tape. Things that are used for minutes but can remain in the environment for years to come. That was the biggest takeaway from our Plastic-Free July litter pick. Not that we found litter. But how quickly we stopped being surprised by it. What's one piece of single-use plastic you've spotted recently that you never really noticed before? #PlasticFreeJuly #SingleUsePlastic #PackagingInnovation #Sustainability #notpla

It’s #PlasticFreeJuly – and here at Levy we’re celebrating the moves we’ve made to reduce single use plastic as we drive Sustainability at Scale.🌍 First up, our partnership with Earthshot prize-winners, Notpla. We’ve been steadily rolling out the seaweed-coated packaging and have replaced over 4 million single use plastic items across Levy venues in Europe in just two years. 🌊 Then, enter the mighty ONE Planet ONE Chance® Reusable Cup System – a UK-produced, reusable cup made from polypropylene which is 100% recyclable. We used 8.4M reusable One Cups from Event Cup Solutions in 2024, replacing rPET cups at our venues. 🥤 💚 Read more about our award-winning sustainability work in our first Climate Impact Report ➡️ https://planet.levy.co.uk/

I don't usually post much on LinkedIn, but it’s not every day you get invited to speak at the United Nations! 🇺🇳 It was an honour to present at the inaugural Annual Meeting of the UN Global Seaweed Initiative. The conference was an important milestone for the seaweed sector - bringing together governments, scientists, seaweed producers, researchers and policymakers in Geneva to help shape the future of seaweed and discuss how the industry can grow responsibly, strengthen global supply chains and unlock new opportunities across food, agriculture and materials. A few takeaways from the event a couple weeks ago: - Seaweed is becoming more of a global priority - Growth is already happening, but any future growth needs to be Responsible. - Materials are an important part of the conversation All in all, it was a pleasure to catch up with familiar faces and connect with many new ones. For more insights from the event, read the latest Notpla blogpost below. Thank you UNIDO for the invitation. https://lnkd.in/eQJrsa8N Notpla Ayla de Heney Brian Tsuyoshi Takeda Michael W. #BLUETECH ⚓️ “#Startups don’t need to relocate in order to scale. They need access to real-world environments, pilot opportunities, and strategic partners. Lighthouse delivers all three. We’re proud to support these 8 companies as they grow from vision to impact”. 👉🏻 This is how our Managing Director Europe Francesca Cavanna commented during the official kick-off of the Lighthouse International Acceleration Program, an initiative led by BlueTechPort with the support of the Port de Barcelona, born to connect global technology innovators with real operational challenges in the port ecosystem. From more than 65 applications worldwide, 8 startups from 7 countries and 3 continents have been selected for the inaugural cohort: 🌊 MarinaChain (Singapore) ⚓ heyport (Germany) 🤖 Pharaday (France) 📦 gatein.ai (USA) 🔋 Methanol Reformer (Spain) 🔊 린솔(Linsol) (South Korea) 🤖 KOAI (South Korea) 🌱 Notpla (UK) Over the next months, these innovators will work alongside port and industry stakeholders, leveraging the #PortofBarcelona as a real-world environment to test solutions across digital #ports, #maritime mobility, #sustainability, infrastructure resilience, #ocean monitoring, and marine #biotechnology. "The maritime sector is undergoing a transformation driven by sustainability, digitalisation, and innovation. The Lighthouse program is not just an acceleration initiative; it’s a strategic investment in the future of our port and the blue economy”, as highlighted by Emma Cobos, Director of Innovation & Blue Economy Strategy, Port of Barcelona. Looking forward to supporting these 8 companies on their journey from innovation to impact! 🐬 🌊 🚢 More: https://lnkd.in/dVQm6ywV #OpenInnovation #Innovation #Tech cc Miquel de la Mano, Ruben Hernandez, Carles Anglada Davide Faraci Bianca Palici Angela García Duhalde Serena Orizi Manuele Micheloni Paolo Bertagnin Aurora Ravelli

It was a pleasure speaking at the United Nations in Vienna yesterday during Converge. We discussed global packaging trends, upcoming regulations (PPWR, PFAs limits) and how innovation is shaping the future of the industry. Thanks to UNIDO and GreenBlue Org for inviting Notpla!

There’s a packaging innovation making waves around the world: ocean-based feedstocks! 🌊📦     As concerns about packaging pollution and carbon emissions continue to rise, today at Converge in Vienna, we explored how biobased and biodegradable feedstocks could help address some of our biggest packaging challenges. 🌱♻️      Thanks to Notpla’s Conor Ludden, we got to dive beneath the surface of seaweed-based packaging, and even got to play some seaweed bingo! 🌊 🔎

My camera roll from LCAW needs its own security clearance. Sadiq Khan. Jacinda Ardern. Robert Irwin. Not bad for the seaweed packaging guy. But this is not really a post about selfies. It is about three very different ways to lead, and why we need all of them right now. Jacinda Ardern leads from a deeply human place. She called her book A Different Kind of Power for a reason: "I refuse to believe that you cannot be both compassionate and strong." When we first met at the Earthshot ceremony in Singapore, she pushed us to open the Natural Polymers Group, to work closely with NGOs, academics and the next generation who will inherit the plastic crisis. That advice shaped the group, and catching up this week reminded me that the loudest voice in the room is rarely the one worth following. Sadiq Khan shows what leadership looks like at city level. London now runs the world's largest clean air zone, and in 2024 the city met legal air quality limits for the first time, a milestone once forecast for 2193. Cities do not wait for treaties; they act. We are doing our bit too: over 8.2 million single-use plastics replaced across London, from Wimbledon and The O2 to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. More than any other city in the world, and it happens to be home. Robert Irwin leads a generation. 22 years old, hundreds of wildlife rescues, over 1,000 hectares of rainforest protected through Wildlife Warriors, and millions of young people who care about nature because he makes caring contagious. Three styles but one thing in common: they take the time to connect with people, they show a better way is possible, and then they act. That is what this (hot) moment asks of all of us, whether you run a city, a movement, or a seaweed packaging company in Hackney Wick. I feel very lucky to get into these rooms, bridging so many worlds. We are just getting started. 🌊 #Notpla #EarthshotPrize #LCAW

Plastic-Free July 2026 Why should better material choices only last one month? Every July, millions of people rethink their reliance on single-use plastic. But going plastic-free doesn't mean giving up convenience. It doesn't mean compromising on the food experience. And it certainly doesn't mean eating your ice cream with your hands. It means recognising that there are now better materials for everyday food packaging. Throughout July, we'll be exploring the materials, innovations and everyday moments showing that going plastic-free doesn't mean going without, from seaweed-coated containers and plastic-free windows to award-winning seaweed spoons. Plastic-free. Full stop. Today. This July. Every month after. #PlasticFreeJuly #Notpla #FoodPackaging #MaterialInnovation #Seaweed #Foodservice

Last week, we got the city talking. London Climate Action Week 2026. Throughout London Climate Action Week, we asked founders, policymakers, investors and sustainability leaders one simple question: What's your one BIG takeaway from LCAW 2026? During one of the hottest weeks of the year, the answers felt more relevant than ever. We heard about the urgency of the climate crisis, the need to discover new materials faster, the role of climate finance, carbon storage and food systems, but also a shared sense of optimism. As one familiar face put it: "Urgency plus optimism equals action." A huge thank you to everyone who shared their perspective, gave us their B I G takeway and passed it on. Bringing together people and ideas is exactly what London Climate Action Week is all about.
