After 26 years’ service and more than six weeks at sea, the Northern Endeavour FPSO has reached a pivotal point in its decommissioning journey, arriving at the Modern American Recycling Services (MARS) in Frederikshavn, Denmark, where it will undergo final dismantling and recycling. 🚢 Working with COSCO SHIPPING Heavy Transport (COSCO), the 55,000‑tonne, 247‑metre‑long vessel was loaded onto COSCO’s semi‑submersible heavy transport vessel, Hua Rui Long. This required eight tugboats, two line handling vessels, and six and a half hours of precision coordination, a testament to our teams’ logistical expertise.  Josie Philips, Vice President of Asset Solutions in the APAC region, commented, "Getting the vessel to this point was only possible through the positive team culture, hard work and resilience of our decommissioning team, both onshore and offshore, our local and international supply chain partners and everyone who has supported along the way.  “This very challenging project has provided a robust blueprint for decommissioning projects in Australia and beyond and reinforces Petrofac’s position as a leader in late-life asset management and decommissioning work.” 📸 Thanks to the Australian Government Department of Industry, Science and Resources for providing following images of the Northern Endeavour.

📉 Re-entry of legacy subsea wells can be uncertain, with risk-based cost discouraging operators from scheduling the work – a hot topic on the North Sea Transition Authority’s Wells Task Force agenda this week. Leading the way, our Senior Tree and Wellhead Engineer, Brian Masson delivered a presentation on subsea well re-entry risk management, sharing lessons from lived operational experience our Asset Solutions team have on complex well re-entry projects both in the UKCS and internationally. Brian and our Well Engineering Manager Craig Barnes also contributed to a multi-operator and supply chain workshop focused on unlocking well re-entry operational efficiency opportunities for industry that will form the basis of a best practice guide. This type of industry collaboration is crucial, facilitating knowledge sharing and driving a collective focus on mitigating risk, and therefore reducing cost, through efficiency improvements. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐤𝐞𝐲 𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐲? Predicting sources of non-productive time (NPT) to maximise productive time is experience-led: ➡️ Simplify and clash model new and legacy interfaces ➡️ Secure access to legacy subsea tooling options via sharing between operators using initiatives such as NSTA’s TWIST ➡️ Have contingencies ready to implement ➡️ Have pre-prepared dispensations to gain the barrier envelope required ➡️ Adopt a mindset where conventional secondary recovery options may be best selected as the primary approach Thanks to Adura for hosting and we look forward to continuing the conversation by further contributing to the best practice guide.

How do we design CO2 networks that are safe, compliant, reliable, and future-proofed beyond 2040? We joined World Pipelines - CCS Forum in London, where Darren Jones, Subsea & Pipelines Manager, Consulting, took part in a panel discussing the UK’s readiness for delivering carbon capture and storage (CCS) projects. With HyNet and the East Coast Cluster now progressing, the UK has the chance to move from pilot thinking to true industrial deployment. The expert panel addressed the sector’s next opportunities and the challenges to overcome, such as: • How do we manage technical risk, particularly around the transport of dense phase CO2 over long distances? • Why regulation, like the UK’s Transport & Storage Regulatory Investment Model (TRI), investment models and cross-border cooperation, will make or break momentum • Though the UK’s clusters have received the bulk of early support, more are needed – so too is improved integration and planning between sectors – power, industrial emitters, and potential hydrogen producers - to really achieve large-scale CCS deployment. • How do we deploy the UK’s existing offshore expertise to accelerate large-scale CO2 transport and storage – and how do we attract back the vital experience from the UK’s North Sea sector along with new graduates and apprentices? We are looking forward to continuing the conversation – and playing a part in shaping the engineering solutions that will accelerate the UK’s journey towards large-scale CCS deployment. #CCUS #Decarbonisation #CarbonCapture #OffshoreEngineering #WorldPipelines
