If you were building a company today, what would you prioritise: maximum growth or maintaining control of your vision? In this week’s episode of 'All About Business', I sat down with James Perry , co-founder of COOK Trading Ltd and one of the driving forces behind the B Corp movement in the UK. Created in 1997, COOK grew from a small family venture into a nationally recognised brand, with more than 100 shops across the UK and an award-winning range of frozen homemade meals and desserts. In this episode, we discuss how business and finance can be better aligned with people and the planet and how to build a successful company without following the conventional playbook. Throughout his career, James has consistently asked himself the same fundamental question: what is business really for? Let me know what you think in the comments below… #AllAboutBusiness #LoveMondays #LifeAtReed #BusinessPodcast #Since1960 #PhilCo #JamesPerry #COOK #Entrepreneurship #Leadership #BusinessGrowth #BCorp

Burnout, in this context, isn’t always about workload. It’s often the result of sustained, invisible effort of adapting communication styles, managing expectations, masking differences, or navigating environments that don’t quite fit. For many neurodivergent women, social expectations, gender norms, and internalised pressure to ‘get it right’ can make masking feel like the default - with research consistently showing it is more prevalent among women. From the outside, everything can look fine. Targets are met. Work gets delivered. But behind that, there’s often a constant adjustment just to keep pace - and over time, that takes its toll. If burnout is disproportionately affecting certain groups, it’s a sign that how work is structured isn’t working equally for everyone. And unless that changes, the cost won’t just be burnout. It’ll be the quiet loss of talented people who could have thrived in the right environment.   Find out how to create a more neuroinclusive workplace, with expert insights from leading voices in the field in Reed’s guide - ‘Work that works for everyone: your guide to building a neuroinclusive workplace’. Is ‘quiet luxury’ becoming the new workplace must-have? In a world where authenticity is becoming increasingly valued, employees are looking beyond flashy perks and attention-grabbing benefits. Instead, they're seeking meaningful experiences, thoughtful rewards and workplace cultures that genuinely support their wellbeing and career growth. Katy Watson, Operations Director at Reed Talent Solutions, explores how the concept of ‘quiet luxury’ is reshaping the modern employee value proposition (EVP).  From flexible working and personalised development opportunities to strong leadership and a sense of purpose, today's most attractive employers are focusing on the benefits that make a lasting impact. As competition for talent continues, organisations that prioritise substance over spectacle may be better placed to attract and retain the people they need to succeed. 🔗 Read more: https://bit.ly/4w2AE7s

How do you build a £50 million business in just four years? And what does it take to disrupt a billion-pound industry with an everyday product? In this week’s episode of ‘All About Business’, I sat down with Mark Rushmore , co-founder of SURI , a future-focused wellness brand known for its award-winning electric toothbrushes, purposefully designed with innovative plant-based materials. Before launching SURI, Mark began his career in the corporate world, developing his commercial expertise at Procter & Gamble and Kellogg’s before making the leap into entrepreneurship. In this episode, we talk about the challenges of scaling a fast-growing company, the lessons Mark learned from burnout, and why he believes founders should invest as much in themselves and their relationships as they do in their products. We also discuss company culture, AI and the mindset required to build something with a genuinely long-term vision. One idea from our conversation has stayed with me in particular: are your business decisions a hat, a haircut, or a tattoo? What is the most overlooked product or industry that you think is overdue for reinvention? Managers aren’t expected to have all the answers, and they shouldn’t have to. In fact, when we spoke to Matthew Timmis for our latest guide, ‘Work that works for everyone: your guide to building a neuroinclusive workplace’, he emphasised something simple but powerful: encourage curiosity, not expertise. When managers are supported with the right guidance and access to expertise, conversations happen sooner, challenges don’t escalate and teams can focus on what really matters. 📥 Download our guide to explore practical ways to build a neuroinclusive workplace: https://bit.ly/4g0Lbuy

🤖 Back humans, tax robots? As AI continues to transform the workplace, are we doing enough to ensure technology enhances human potential rather than replaces it? James Reed CBE, Chairman and CEO of Reed, argues that rising employment costs and the rapid growth of automation are making it more attractive for organisations to replace people with technology. At the same time, entry-level and graduate opportunities are becoming harder to find, raising concerns about the future talent pipeline.    While AI presents enormous opportunities for productivity and innovation, our latest article challenges us to think about whether our tax system is keeping pace with the changing world of work.   It also highlights the importance of continuing to invest in people through apprenticeships, graduate schemes and early careers programmes, ensuring the next generation has opportunities to develop the skills employers need.   🔗 Read more: https://bit.ly/4wG7Kdi
