  • Hiring an ML Engineer in 2026 looks nothing like it did three years ago. Half the job is now wrangling models someone else trained. The role has quietly shifted from building models to making them behave. The skills that actually move the needle have changed: • Writing evals that catch failure before customers do • Designing retrieval that grounds a model in real data • Taming latency and cost at production scale • Knowing when to fine-tune and when to just prompt • Spotting hallucination patterns before they ship Training a model from scratch is rarely the job anymore. Shipping a reliable system around someone else's model usually is. For teams hiring in the LLM era - what separates an Engineer who ships AI features from one who only demos them? #runtime #buildshipruntime

  • The teams that consistently win technical hires rarely have the hardest interviews. They have the most respectful ones. Take-home or pairing, whiteboard or real codebase - the format matters far less than whether the loop is built around the actual job and the candidate's time. In our latest blow, we cover how to assess engineers accurately without quietly driving the strong ones away. Read the blog here: https://lnkd.in/euQEQfni #runtime #buildshipruntime

  • The best engineers don't fail technical interviews. They quietly decline to finish them. A bad process leaks talent long before any offer goes out. The patterns that drive strong engineers away show up early: • A take-home that quietly costs a full weekend • Trick questions that test recall, not judgement • Whiteboard puzzles no one writes in the actual job • Four rounds that all ask the same thing • Interviewers who clearly didn't read the CV A sharp loop signals a team worth joining. A sloppy one signals exactly what working there will feel like. For engineering leaders refining their process - which interview stage earns the most signal per hour of a candidate's time? #runtime #buildshipruntime

🚨 𝗛𝗼𝘁 𝗝𝗼𝗯 𝗔𝗹𝗲𝗿𝘁 🚨 𝗦𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗿 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗿 - 𝗩𝗖 𝗕𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗲𝗱 - 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗖 - 𝗥𝗲𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗲 (𝗨𝗞 𝗼𝗿 𝗜𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱) Why is this role different? You'll be embedded directly inside an engineering team, in the sprint, in the design review, in the architecture conversation - before the code is written, not after it ships. And because the product itself is a security platform, the work you do protects not just one company but every developer and organisation depending on software flowing through the platform every day. • Hiring one Forward Deployed Engineer is a tactic. Building a team of ten is a different sport entirely. The first hire succeeds on raw talent. The tenth succeeds on everything that was built around them. Scaling an FDE function quietly depends on a few things: • A repeatable brief that survives past the Founder's gut feel • A career path, so strong FDEs don't leave to "go back to real engineering" • Mentorship that pairs customer instinct with technical depth • Comp bands that hold up when demand spikes • A clean handoff between FDEs, product, and support One brilliant FDE can rescue a handful of accounts. A real function changes how the whole company ships and retains. For Engineering Leaders scaling past their first FDE, what breaks first as the team grows? #runtime #buildshipruntime

The first Forward Deployed Engineer a SaaS company hires rarely decides whether the function works. The decisions made before that person arrives usually already have. By the time CVs land, the role has been scoped, calibrated and sold. That is where most first FDE hires quietly go wrong. Five mistakes come up again and again, from a generic job description through to nobody owning the hire once they arrive. Read the full blog here: https://lnkd.in/gnmrEPGd #runtime #buildshipruntime

  • Early-stage SaaS teams love hiring "full-stack" engineers. Then they scale, and the cracks appear exactly where the breadth used to help. Generalists are a superpower at ten people and a risk at fifty. The trade-off shifts as the product grows: • Early on, breadth ships the roadmap with fewer hands • Later, depth keeps the platform from quietly falling over • Generalists move fast across a small surface area • Specialists go deep where scale and reliability start to bite • The wrong mix shows up as paralysis or constant firefighting Full-stack hires build the first version of everything. Specialists are what stop the second version from breaking. For teams scaling past their first ten engineers - when did breadth stop being enough? #runtime #buildshipruntime
