🚔#ThrowbackThursday | 10 years of Project Servator 👮♂️👮♀️ As the Civil Nuclear Constabulary (CNC) celebrates 10 years of Project Servator, we're looking back at its introduction at Sellafield in 2016 📅 Over the last decade, Project Servator has become a familiar part of the policing presence across the Sellafield site and surrounding area. The tactic uses unpredictable and highly visible police deployments to provide a reassuring presence for the public while encouraging everyone to remain vigilant and report any suspicious or unusual activity 👀🔍 📣Since it was introduced, specially trained CNC officers have worked alongside Sellafield Ltd security teams, engaging with employees, local businesses and residents, helping to build a strong net-work of vigilance both on and off site. While much has changed over the years, one thing has stayed the same: security is everyone's responsibility. The awareness and support of our workforce and local communities continue to play an important role in helping keep Sellafield safe and secure. A special arrival in Whitehaven Harbour ⚓️ If you haven't already spotted it in the harbour, the Nao Santa Maria has dropped anchor in Whitehaven and will be here for the next 10 days, giving the community and visitors a rare opportunity to step aboard a floating museum and replica of one of history's most famous ships. We're proud to be supporting this visit, which is bringing a real buzz to the waterfront, attracting visitors to the area and celebrating Whitehaven's rich maritime heritage. The visit also offers a unique learning experience for local young people, giving them the chance to climb aboard, ask questions and discover what life at sea was really like hundreds of years ago. ⚛️ #FutureFriday: Post Operational Clean-Out (POCO) POCO is a critical step in preparing our nuclear facilities for the future. It takes place between operations ending and full decommissioning, and often involves removing fuel, wastes, chemicals and other radioactive inventories. 🛡️ Why is it important? Because it helps reduce hazards and makes facilities safer and more cost-effective to manage. With more than 80 facilities across the Sellafield site requiring POCO, we prioritise work where it delivers the greatest reduction in risk and hazard. 🏭 One example is the Magnox Reprocessing Plant, which ceased operations in 2022. Many of our older facilities were never designed with decommissioning in mind. That means our teams often have to develop innovative, first-of-a-kind solutions to overcome unique challenges. ✅ The result? #ThrowbackThursday Sellafield's history is not only shaped by what happens on site, but also by the buildings and communities that have supported our work for generations 🤝 This week, we're looking back at Pelham House in Calderbridge, a building with a rich history that stretches back more than 250 years. Built around 1774 as Ponsonby Hall, the property was designed by the renowned architect James Paine for local landowner Edward Stanley and is today recognised as a Grade II* listed building ✨ Over the years, Pelham House has served a variety of purposes, including an approved school for boys before becoming an important off-site office location supporting the nuclear industry. Today, it remains part of the NDA estate. This photograph, taken in 1998, captures the building in all its grandeur and serves as a reminder of the many ways our history is intertwined with the wider West Cumbria community. Building the skills needed for tomorrow starts today! This year, more than 300 learners from Cumbria and Warrington have completed work experience placements across 13 pathways. The learners that join us gain valuable insight into the world of work. For us, it’s about helping young people in our communities develop confidence, build employability skills, broaden their horizons and discover careers they may never have considered. By engaging with young people as they start to think about their next steps, we help to build a long-term skills pipeline our region and sector need for the future. THROWBACK THURSDAY 🐮⚖️ Some archive photos are simply too good not to revisit. This image captures a rather unusual visitor to Sellafield when a local farmer needed to weigh his prize bull for a 'Guess the Weight of the Bull' competition at Muncaster Country Fair. At the time, our weighbridge was one of the few in the area large enough for the job, so the bull was brought onto site for an official weigh-in before taking centre stage at the fair. It's a great reminder of the long-standing connection between Sellafield and the communities around us, and the many unexpected ways we've supported local events over the years.
