As the UK government prepares a new version of the “War Book”, first developed during the First World War, what do we need to consider when preparing Britain for the threats it faces? Serco’s UK & Europe CEO Fiona Walters pens an article on what today’s War Book will need to look like and consider, encompassing not just the military response, but what’s needed for society and the economy to continue functioning at a time of crisis. Fiona makes the case for why we need a whole-of-society approach – combining civil society, academia and business – if we are truly to build the UK’s national resilience and readiness. As the world grows more dangerous, one thing is manifestly clear: having a plan on how Britain, as a nation, responds and recovers from physical, economic or cyber threats is no longer a nice-to-have: it’s an imperative. 👇 Click below to read the article. #NationalResilience #UKDefence #WarBook #WholeOfSociety #CriticalInfrastructure #DefencePolicy #CyberSecurity #PublicPrivatePartnership #StrategicResilience #SercoDefence

These specialist communities use a unique therapeutic approach where residents and staff work together to challenge behaviours, build accountability and support lasting rehabilitation. Through therapy groups, peer support and shared responsibility, DTCs help individuals develop the skills needed to create safer, more positive futures. Collaboration thrives when we look beyond borders. 🌎 This week, the EmployNext team hosted Andy Bowie FIEP , Director of Employment, Skills & Training for Serco UK&E for a multi-day exchange across our employment services system, including time with frontline teams at KEYS Employment & Newcomer Services in Kingston. We had an energizing exchange of ideas and experience on what it takes to deliver high‑impact employment services. From performance and innovation to training models and system design, the conversations challenged our thinking and sparked new possibilities. As Jodi O'Gorman FIEP (She/ Her), Director of Employment Services in Canada noted, “Our collaboration strengthens our business by drawing on the collective expertise of our Serco Restart and EmployNext teams. When we bring together diverse perspectives and experiences, we are better equipped to deliver meaningful outcomes for the people and communities we serve.” This type of exchange helps strengthen local delivery by connecting it to broader global experience. By leaning into shared learning, celebrating what’s working, and confronting barriers head‑on, we are exploring how employment services can evolve. The result is stronger, more adaptive systems that better support jobseekers, employers, and communities in Canada and internationally.

Last night, our Group Chief Executive Anthony Kirby hosted an event on maritime autonomy, an area of increasing strategic importance where Serco is building real and differentiating capability. Alongside leading defence and maritime experts, politicians and defence officials, we discussed how we can better harness and rapidly implement autonomous systems and technology. Key takeaways: ➡️ Maritime autonomy is not coming, it’s already here, and transforming the way war is waged. The advantage will sit with those who can bring autonomy into service quickly, safely, and credibly. ➡️ We have the technology – we now must focus on moving from invention to adoption, at scale and at pace. ➡️ Implementing autonomy will require integrating autonomous systems and technology into existing fleets, training our operators to use them, and defining how we sustain and maintain those platforms. Serco offers experience and capability to deal with these challenges. We can help navies produce, integrate and sustain autonomous systems, and train crews in their use. Last night’s discussion showed how critical maritime autonomous vessels will be in protecting nations. We look forward to working with our government and military customers, helping develop cutting-edge, mission-ready solutions to equip navies with the skills and capabilities they need for modern maritime warfare. Thank you to The Rt Hon James Heappey for chairing our discussion and to Public First for partnering with us on this important matter.
