Being filmed doing my weekly Friday High Five 🖐️ was a first 😂. We’ve been doing things slightly different on TheBusinessDesk.com over the last few weeks, and I hope it’s cutting through with our readers. Basically we run a longer, more in-depth piece on the middle three days of each week. These are often a broader take on the themes that shape business and civic life across all of the nations and regions we cover. On Tuesday Neil Hodgson dug into whether small businesses were ready for HMRC’s sweeping changes to get everyone online and whether it was actually Making Tax Difficult? Sheryl Moore provided a real eye-opener into the rise and rise of challenger brands in the home cleaning market. Then on Thursday Georgia Wright applied her experience of the retail market to delve into Andy Burnham’s early moves to revive the High Street.  All of this on top of up to date and punchy news on a range of business issues and news stories. It’s always important to say what has happened, but more so to explain why. It also makes so much sense to play to the strengths of our journalists – their connections, as well as their experience.  Next week I’ll be looking into London’s complicated relationship with the rest of the UK, something massively important now that No10 North has opened in Manchester. I’ve already had some fascinating conversations with our friends in the south. If you fancy a chat, then let me know. Have a great weekend.
