Cancer patients at our Trust have rated their overall care an impressive 9.1 out of 10 in the National Cancer Patient Experience Survey 🎉 We achieved a number of scores above the national expected range, and recorded strong results across many aspects of cancer care and treatment. Highlights include 99% of patients saying their care team reviewed their care plan to ensure it was up to date, 97% of patients said advice from their main contact person was helpful and 95% of patients said they were always given enough privacy when receiving diagnostic test results. We are one of the first hospital trusts in the country to introduce Ambient Voice Technology (AVT) - software that transcribes patient consultations and automatically generates clinical notes and patient letters. The new ‘Scribe’ note-taking technology aims to encourage more natural conversations between medical professionals and patients by removing the need for typed or handwritten notes, and reducing the amount of time spent completing paperwork. Joint statement on the future of level 3 critical care at Furness General Hospital "Both the Trust and the Integrated Care Board (ICB) are committed to ensuring that the population of Furness has access to safe, sustainable, and high-quality services; locally provided, where safe and sustainable. We cannot, and will not, provide a service that is unsafe. That said, we also want to ensure that we take the appropriate time to fully explore and evaluate potential alternative models of care for Level 3 critical care at FGH and determine the best way forward." A tranquil and beautiful outdoor sanctuary for families grieving the loss of a baby has been created at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary thanks to the generosity of a local company and colleagues from the Maternity Unit 💖 The Willow Suite’s bereavement garden is a place where bereaved families can sit in peace and some parents have said looking up towards the stars from the garden gave them a sense of connection with the baby that they had so sadly lost. The team at Pinington have kindly donated new decking, garden furniture and landscaping improvements, and this was complemented by the dedication of Alison Mayor, Head of Midwifery at UHMBT, who worked alongside her husband and a friend to plant new flowers, clear overgrown areas and re-pot containers. A group of bereaved mums who helped shape The Willow Suite recently visited the garden and were delighted with how it now looks. Read more: https://lnkd.in/esgT5zrX

Today we welcome the publication of the National Maternity and Neonatal Investigation. Steve Williamson, our Chief Executive, has shared the following statement: “We welcome the publication of the National Maternity and Neonatal Investigation, and want to thank Baroness Amos and her team for carrying out this important piece of work. “As a Trust, we were keen to be involved in the investigation as it gave us the opportunity to share learning and examples of good practice from our improvement journey and highlight any further work we could do to strengthen our maternity services. “It’s important that we acknowledge the ongoing pain that some families are going through because of actions taken by this Trust in the past. While we have made significant changes and improvements in recent years, that does not lessen the impact on those involved, and we will never forget that. “However, we are in a very different place now and our teams have given their all to make positive changes to the services we offer local families. These changes include establishing a new leadership team, strengthening governance and oversight, and embedding a culture focused on openness, learning and effective multidisciplinary working. We are listening more closely to families, investing in bereavement support and triage facilities, improving staffing levels, and taking targeted action to ensure more equitable care for all women and their babies. “These improvements have been recognised by the CQC who recently rated our maternity services as ‘good’ for the first time since 2019, We were also ranked fourth nationally for overall positive scores in the recent CQC Maternity Survey with most survey questions showing either stability or improvement. “These significant changes deserve to be celebrated but it isn’t the end. We are delighted that Emily Henry, Quality and Safety Matron in the Corporate Nursing Team, and Hannah Tizard, Recruitment and Retention Lead Midwife and Professional Midwifery Advocate, have been awarded places on the NIHR (National Institute for Health and Care Research) Senior Research Leader Programme! 🔬🔎   Emily and Hannah are developing "Research Connect", a Trust-wide framework for growing research culture across UHMBT, making it easier for staff to engage with research, develop confidence and capability, connect with opportunities, and turn learning from practice into sustained improvement and wider impact.   Together, Emily and Hannah bring complementary expertise across community care, maternity, neonatal services, workforce development, education, quality, safety and research leadership.   Through Research Connect, their shared priorities are: ➡️ Curiosity: create approachable spaces for staff to explore research, ask questions and share ideas. ➡️ Capability: build confidence and practical research skills through evaluation, quality improvement, education and professional development. ➡️ Opportunity: connect staff with research projects, pathways, mentors, collaborators and dissemination opportunities. ➡️ Belonging: grow an inclusive research culture where staff across professions, roles and sites can see research as part of their contribution to care.   Their shared approach recognises that research culture is also workforce culture.
