  • Saudi Arabia found an alternative to the Strait of Hormuz, but Wood Mackenzie data shows the workaround has limits. After crude exports were rerouted through the East-West Petroline to Yanbu, Red Sea bypass volumes peaked at 4.07 million barrels per day in March before falling 41% to 2.39 million barrels per day by June. Meanwhile, Gulf crude exports fell 82% between January and June. Iraq, Kuwait and Qatar recorded zero exports, as none have a pipeline alternative to Hormuz. The disruption may have shifted rather than reduced supply risk. As Wood Mackenzie analyst Ian Solis says: "What looked like diversification was in reality a shift from one strategic bottleneck to another." With crude flows now concentrated through Yanbu, Bab al-Mandeb has emerged as the next chokepoint to watch. Read the full analysis here: https://okt.to/dWsDxF

  • Join us for a panel discussion at the Wood Mackenzie European Power Investment Summit featuring representatives from Octopus Energy Generation, Luminous Energy Group, RES Group and European Energy. It will focus on: - How is the increasing scale of renewables projects driving complexity, higher costs, and lender hesitation? - What is the potential of brownfield coal and gas power sites for skipping connection queues and speeding up development? - Workforce challenges: do European energy developers have a healthy pipeline of skilled labour? Register now by searching for WoodMac European Power Investment Summit and join us in London for this two day event on 16-17 September. https://okt.to/QFbh2x

  • Exploration has long been framed as an industry in decline. But the data tells a more nuanced story. Over the past decade, the upstream sector has fundamentally changed how it explores. Resource discovered per well has increased, discovery costs have improved and success is increasingly being driven by better prospect selection rather than greater activity. It's a reminder that looking at headline metrics alone doesn't always reveal where the biggest shifts are happening. Our latest analysis explores what's behind this quiet efficiency revolution in upstream exploration: https://okt.to/b872ls

  • AI data centres are changing the US gas demand outlook. Wood Mackenzie has increased its forecast for behind-the-meter generation by four times in just 12 months, reflecting how quickly power constraints are reshaping data centre strategies. While hyperscalers may not always prefer behind-the-meter solutions, limited grid capacity is making dedicated gas-fired generation an increasingly practical route to securing power for large-scale AI infrastructure. Dulles Wang, Director of Americas Gas and LNG Research at Wood Mackenzie, explains why this emerging demand source could become increasingly important for US natural gas markets. As AI-driven electricity demand grows, the relationship between data centres, gas generation and Henry Hub prices will be a key factor shaping the next era of US energy markets. Watch the full Horizons Live to explore why Wood Mackenzie expects structural changes in supply and demand to reshape the Henry Hub outlook:: https://okt.to/Vbd4WI

  • Our latest LinkedIn newsletter, Energy market uncertainty, supply security and new investment opportunities, is now live, exploring the forces reshaping global energy markets. This week we examine how disruption to oil and LNG flows is putting energy markets under renewed pressure, why copper supply is becoming a critical challenge for the energy transition, and where the next upstream opportunities are emerging across Latin America. We also explore how prolonged Middle East uncertainty could impact European power markets and the role of CCUS in supporting industrial decarbonisation. Coverage includes: - How ongoing disruption in the Gulf could reshape oil and LNG markets, with major implications for prices, supply security and the global economy - Why biomining could help unlock more copper supply as demand grows from AI, electrification and the energy transition - Where Latin America’s next upstream opportunities are emerging, from, Brazil’s deepwater developments to frontier plays across the region - How Middle East tensions could affect European gas and power markets, accelerating changes in energy demand and electrification - Join industry leaders at the Wood Mackenzie Carbon Capture, Utilization & Storage Conference to explore the future of carbon management Explore the full newsletter and subscribe for weekly insights.

  • India's data centre market is entering a structural growth phase, with operational capacity projected to increase from 2.2 GW in 2025 to 12 GW by 2030 as AI, hyperscale cloud investment and enterprise digitalisation accelerate demand. But scaling capacity is only part of the story. Reliable, cost competitive power is becoming the defining factor in data centre development, increasingly shaping site selection and long term competitiveness. Our latest research explores what this means for developers, investors and policymakers, from emerging growth hubs to evolving power procurement strategies that will shape India's next wave of data centre investment. • Cheap Henry Hub prices over the last decade have given the US a huge competitive advantage. It has underpinned the US LNG export boom and the massive buildout of gas-fired power generation now supporting data centre growth across the country. But that advantage is narrowing. Henry Hub natural gas prices are entering a new era, and the ripple effect will be felt globally. Read this month’s #WMHorizons to understand the structural drivers, and the pivot points that could temper the outlook – and why our view is that the only way is up: https://okt.to/BQAfl9
