We are delighted to celebrate with Transport UK London Bus as a fleet of iconic #Routemaster buses returns to London's streets following a comprehensive mid-life refurbishment programme delivered by our repair and refurbishment division.   The latest vehicle to complete the programme - LT706 - has emerged from a full refit before returning to service from Transport UK London's Walworth Garage.   It is the ninth of 40 Routemasters allocated to Walworth-based Routes 3 and 68 to complete the programme with Wrightbus, with the remaining vehicles due to be refurbished over the next 12 months. Among those already refurbished is the LT1000 - the last ever New Routemaster - which is now back at the Transport UK Twickenham Depot. Ross Cleaver, Sales Director, Repair, Refurbishment & Repower Sales, at Wrightbus, said: "Refurbishment is about much more than appearance. It's about giving operators the confidence that their vehicles will continue to deliver the highest standards of reliability, safety and passenger experience throughout their operational life.” Gabriel Collins, Transport UK London Bus Fleet Manager at Walworth Garage, said: "Buses in the capital have a 14-year operational life and are typically refurbished at around age seven to eight, meaning vehicles are in 'as new' condition during a second contract term. The refurbishment programme consists of a comprehensive vehicle survey that identifies what needs either repairing or replacing and, as LT706 demonstrates, the team has done a fantastic job." The images here show our team refurbishing Transport for London's New Routemasters, one of the capital's most recognisable and heavily used bus fleets. Our in-house refurbishment service brings ageing vehicles back to life. All major components, including painting, panel pressing and accident repair are worked on in-house by skilled painters, panel beaters, fabricators, upholsterers and vehicle technicians, giving us greater control over quality, cost and turnaround from start to finish. Every job uses premium materials and is completed by craftsmen with years of hands-on expertise, built to last for years of reliable service. Every stage is signed off under a full quality protocol, with a refurbishment certificate issued on completion. As we celebrate 80 years as a UK bus manufacturer, we're reflecting on one of the standout chapters in our history: the New Bus for London. On 23rd December 2009, Transport for London announced Wrightbus as the preferred manufacturer to design and build a new icon for the capital inspired by the legendary AEC Routemaster. The first prototype was unveiled at Millbrook in June 2011, followed by a formal launch at our Ballymena plant that November. The bus then toured London's shopping centres before entering service in central London on 27th February 2012, carrying the type code 'LT'. At their peak almost 1000 Wrightbus New Routemasters were in service in London, numbered LT1 to LT1000 (with a couple of numbers unused) The new Routemaster reinstated the much-loved "hop on, hop off" open rear platform, while being fully accessible for wheelchair users and parents with buggies combining heritage with inclusive design. Under the bonnet, it was ahead of its time too: 40% more fuel-efficient than conventional diesel buses and 15% more efficient than the hybrids already running in London. Then-Mayor Boris Johnson called it a return to the joy of the open platform, paired with green technology that would cut both pollution and fuel use. It went on to become a genuine icon of the city, carrying millions of Londoners over more than a decade of service and recognised across the world. Many of these buses are currently being refurbished , giving these assets a new lease of life as they continue service in the capital - highlighting the longevity engineered into these buses from the start. #FleetFriday | #TrawsCymru | Wrightbus Ultroliners Passengers across Wales have been benefiting from brand new Wrightbus Ultroliners since June, as Transport for Wales expands the TrawsCymru fleet and strengthens the resilience of long-distance travel throughout the country. This delivery marked a historic milestone, the first Wrightbus vehicles delivered to Transport for Wales for the TrawsCymru operation. TrawsCymru spans 13 routes across Wales, established in 2012 to connect communities where rail links are limited and provide a joined-up transport network. With Wales operating the oldest bus fleet in the UK, these new vehicles represent a significant investment in modern, accessible transport, improving links between towns and rural areas, and making it easier for people to reach jobs, education, healthcare and leisure opportunities. The Ultroliners support the Welsh Government's commitment to a greener, more accessible transport network, helping to reduce congestion and lower carbon emissions across the network. The visit, including Sophia Prosser and Neil James, brought our teams together to discuss specification details and design options, alongside a full tour of the factory floor - offering direct insight into our end-to-end manufacturing process, all of which is carried out on site, right here in the UK. Visits like this are central to how we work: engineering collaboration that shapes better products from the ground up. Wrightbus is marking another milestone in our growing partnership with Transport for Wales, and we are delighted to announce a new contract to supply 6 GB Kite #Electroliners, our single-deck zero-emission electric buses, with delivery scheduled for 2027. The order follows the delivery of 14 low emission Ultroliners to Transport for Wales in June. Yesterday marked a significant milestone for Wrightbus as we officially launched our business in #Australia, reinforcing our commitment to supporting the country's transition to zero-emission public transport & expanding our global footprint. The launch represents the start of an exciting new chapter for Wrightbus in Australia and reflects our long-term ambition to partner with operators and governments to deliver sustainable transport solutions. Leading the launch was Wrightbus Managing Director Christian Reynolds, who travelled from our UK headquarters to mark the occasion. He said: “We have vehicles in operations across UK, Europe and Asia, we’re able to share that learning and experience in zero emission transformation to support Australian partners. This is about more than a transaction to supply buses; it’s about building partnerships, creating ecosystems, supporting jobs and developing sustainable transport solutions for decades to come.
