This study is focused on the analysis of the properties of glassionomers following the choice of the type of material by the dentists. The study evaluated the properties of glassionomers used for restorations directly by comparing those prepared manually with those prepared mechanically, to find an “ideal” glassionomer and to counteract the disadvantages of the material. Method. The study was conducted on the basis of a questionnaire and included 254 dentists from Romania. It took place between April 6 - 24, 2020 and the questionnaire was administered online. The questions focused on: the type of glassionomer chosen by every dentist, the doctor’s opinion about the properties, type and clinical indications of the material. Results. The results showed that in Romania, the dentists use the glassionomer for a permanent filling in adults because of the financial aspect, as they stated. In their opinion the best advantages are the fluoride release and adhesion to dent...

The main reason canines are impacted is the lack of space required for the tooth to erupt. Aim of study: The main objective of this study is to determine the types of malocclusions associated with canine impaction (Lindauer classification). A secondary objective is to establish the correlation between these parameters and identification of subjects with high risk of canine impaction based on pre-existing malocclusion. Material and methods: This study was performed on a sample of 20 patients, 9 men and 11 women. The dental casts were subject to Angle classification and various measurements such as arch perimeter, Pont’s index, sum of the mesiodistal width of the incisor and arch length were performed. The Lindauer sectorial classification was determined based on the patients’ panoramic radiography. Results: According to the data collected, the Class II /2 malocclusion is mor...

The opportunity of using Endocrown-type restorations in the current prosthetic dentistry practice as an alternative to other, well-established methods of corono-radicular restorations and the evolving palette of adhesive materials has made these restorations more popular in the last few years. Objective. The purpose is to review the available literature about Endocrown restorations regarding mechanical properties-fracture strength and resistance, survival rate, the preparation design-marginal and internal adaptation, and esthetics. Method. The search was carried out on four databases: PubMed, Scopus (ScienceDirect), Web of Science, and Scielo using the following terms: "endocrowns", "endodontic crown", and" no buildup crown". Initially, a total of 163 articles published between 2015 and May 2021 were selected. After the duplicates, papers presented only as abstracts, articles in any other languages except English, and review articles were eliminated; a total of 72 articles remained to be considered for this review. After assessing the 72 considered articles, 37 were chosen as fit for this review. The reasons for the elimination of the other 35 articles were: their main focus was other than endocrowns, e.g., direct restorations, indirect restorations of vital teeth; case reports; study protocols. Results. From the 37 articles selected, 34 were focused on mechanical properties, including the influence of the preparation design, and three on survival rate, of which one also had a point of view regarding esthetics. Conclusions. The literature included in this review shows that endocrowns perform similarly or even better in some cases than other coronal restorations. However, this statement must be interpreted cautiously, given that most articles were in vitro or finite element analysis studies. Given the high degree of conflicting results found in the articles included in this review, the authors consider as reasonable to conclude that further studies are needed to confirm the feasibility of endocrowns and the best choice of material.

LLLT therapy was compared with placebo treatment. Material and methods: A number of 20 patients with TMJ pain were included in this study. The diagnosis was done according to Research Diagnostic Criteria for Temporomandibular Disorders (RDC/TMD). The patients were divided into two groups. The first group received LLLT (660 nm, 90 mW; LaserHF Surgical Unit, Hager & Werken GmbH & Co.KG, Duisburg, Germany) and the second group placebo therapy. TMJ pain was evaluated at baseline and weeks 1 and 2 after therapy. Results: The pain scores decreased for both groups at the 1week point. At the 2-week point there was a significantly decrease in pain scores for LLLT group compared with the placebo group. Still, according to the Mann-Whitney test, there was no statistically significant difference between the placebo group and the LLLT group. Conclusion: Considering these results and the fact that there is no side effect or disadvantage of LLLT, we recommend its use for pain reduction in TMD patients, but with the condition of daily sessions. Further studies are recommended with a larger sample size of patients in order to demonstrate the benefit of LLLT treatment also from a statistical point of view.

Among physical therapies, occlusal splints, low-level laser therapy, acupuncture, ultrasound, TENS frequently used in current practice. The aim of physical therapies is to re-establish the muscle physiology by increasing the local blood and lymphatic flow. The aim of this study was to provide some clinical guidance regarding ultrasound therapy and TENS in case of temporomandibular disorders. Material and methods. A research of literature has been performed-articles published over the last 10 years (January 2009 until December 2019) were searched by introducing a combination of different terms, using the Pubmed and Science Direct databases. Results and discussion. A total number of 611 articles were found. After applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 20 articles were taken into consideration for the present study. Conclusion. Based on the findings within this literature review it can be concluded that for patients suffering from TMDs, ultrasound therapy and transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation represent an effective non-drug-based conservative option, in order to improve symptoms like pain or hyperactivity of the masticatory muscles. Because it was difficult to compare the studies included, as they do not offer an optimal usage (program, duration of sessions, or number of sessions) of each technique we consider that further randomized controlled clinical studies are necessarily to compare each physical technique as well their combined effect in case of patients with temporomandibular disorders.

The aim of this study was to evaluate if the increased temporomandibular joint (TMJ) capsular thickness, measured by ultrasound (US), is associated with the presence of effusion, diagnosed using MRI imaging. Methods. 102 patients with signs and symptoms of temporomandibular disorders were included in the study. Each patient underwent US and MRI examination, 1 to 7 days following clinical examination. The US was performed with an 8-40 MHz linear transducer operating at 20 MHz. MRI was performed using an 1.5 T MRI device. The ROC curve was analyzed to identify the optimal cutoff value for capsular distention, which can be used as an indirect sign of TMJ effusion. Results. The capsular width values were found to be between 0.7-3.6mm. The best cutoff value was 2.05 mm with sensitivity of 55.9% and speci city of 94.7% (p<0.05). The next optimal cutoff value was 1.75 mm with sensitivity of 67.6% and speci city of 82.4%. The area under the ROC curve was 0.78 (95 % CI 0.68, 0.87). Conclusions. Ultrasound measured capsular width can be used as an indirect sign of TMJ effusion. The most accurate cutoff value obtained in this study was 2.05 mm.

This is mainly due the late diagnosis; therefore, reliable biomarkers for the timely detection of the disease and patient stratification are required. Non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs) are key elements in the physiological and pathological processes of various cancers, which is also reflected in oral cancer development and progression. A better understanding of their role could give a more thorough perspective on the future treatment options for this cancer type. This review offers a glimpse into the ncRNA involvement in oral cancer, which can help the medical community tap into the world of ncRNAs and lay the ground for more powerful diagnostic, prognostic and treatment tools for oral cancer that will ultimately help build a brighter future for these patients.

Also, to consider different selection criteria regarding the choice of material used for the restorations and types of failures. Material and method. 196 patients were included in the study, with a total of 566 endodontically treated teeth. The teeth were endodontically treated and prosthodontically restored, in a private dental clinic in Cluj-Napoca, during November 2015-November 2016. The data for the study was collected from the patients charts, using Microsoft Office Excel. Results. Most of the endodontically treated teeth are observed in the posterior area (73%), both on the upper and lower arches. 51% of the restorations are porcelain fused to metal, followed by 34% all ceramic, 15% composite. Restorations made with acrylate are below 1%. From 566 endodontically treated teeth and prosthodontically restored, only 21 showed a type of event, which was either fracture of the restoration (2 of the cases), or debonding (19 of cases). 38 % of these events were found in composite bridges, 24% in composite crowns, 19% indirect temporary bridges, 14% in porcelain fused to metal crowns and only 5% inall ceramic crowns. Conclusion. The frequency of the type of endodontic treatment is influenced by the type of tooth, and it's location. The decision of choosing beetween one or another type of restoration, considering the clinical situation, influences the succes rate of the restoration.
