His research accomplishments and academic influence on his many students and close collaborators are too many to be accounted for in these brief lines. Professor García-Colín contributed in such diverse fields as the foundations of irreversible thermodynamics beyond the linear regime, by developing formalisms in extended irreversible thermodynamics, as well as information theoretical approaches to non-equilibrium statistical mechanics; the kinetic theory of dilute plasmas and its applications in astrophysics; thermophysical modeling of the glass transition in condensed matter physics, including models of protein folding based in glassy thermodynamics. He also made important contributions to the definition of temperature in non-equilibrium systems; in the application of stochastic matrix approaches in statistical physics; in the nonequilibrium thermodynamics of chemically reacting systems; in non-linear hydrodynamics, and the thermohydrodynamics of rheological systems and non-Newtonian fluids. An important contribution often overlooked was his microscopic derivation of mode-coupling equations and his studies in nonequilibrium critical systems.

The thermodynamic fluxes and forces arise from the entropy production which may be derived from a proposed kinetic entropy function. A straightforward proof of Onsager's reciprocity theorem is presented.

In the mid 80's, Prof. Leopoldo Garcia-Colin was working on relaxation phe- nomena in several kinds of systems. Particularly, he had been studying the re- sponse function to an external perturbation in viscous and viscoelastic fluids. One evening in 1988, he began to discuss with his co-workers a paper that he had been reading, written by W. H. Saslow (20), on the temperature dependence of the av- erage relaxation time in relaxation processes in a supercooled liquid in the glass transition region. Garcia-Colin became interested in the temperature dependence of the Logarithmic Shift Factor (LSF), log aT , that may be expressed in terms of the average relaxation time ? or the viscosity of the supercooled liquid ·,

These equations may be compared with those obtaincd from thc thirteen moment solution of the iloltzmann equation. This comparison yields explicit cxpressions for the relevant phenomenological coefficients in terms of molecular quantities. The static correlation fUllctions for the fluctllations of tile state variables describing the fluid are also calclllated. PACS: 05.70.Ln; 52.25.Dg

On one hand, it is a well-known fact that in the region T g ¡ T ¡ Tc, fragile glass forming liquids do not follow the Vogel-Fulcher-Tammann law. On the other hand, in the same region the Stokes-Einstein relation between the viscosity and the translational di usion coe cient breaks down. Using the temperature derivative analysis, we present, for three glass-forming liquids, an empirical law for log 10 f, where f is the frequency, and we exhibit the break down of the Stokes-Einstein relation.

In particular, different empirical forms for the logarithmic shift factor and its relation with the specific heat that have been studied in the literature are discussed. The system is described within the framework of extended irreversible thermodynamics in terms of the regular conserved variables and of an additional set of independent variables consisting of the stress tensor, its trace, and the electric flux. Using the standard procedure, we derive

In this work, we calculate the configurational entropy of B 2 O 3 using this probability and Shannon's definition of entropy. The isentropic temperature is evaluated obtaining a very good agreement with experimental data. Entropy is introduced into the Adam-Gibbs equation to calculate viscosity. The resulting expression fits the complete range of temperatures for the supercooled liquid.

Using the fact that the model exhibits the existence of a temperature T0 for which the configurational entropy of the system vanishes, we identify this
