This circuit is used to implement the fuzzifier block of Type-2 Fuzzy Logic Controller chip. In this paper the type-2 fuzzy set was obtained by blurring the width of the type-1 fuzzy set. This circuit allows programming the height and the shape of the membership function. It operates in current mode, with supply voltage of 3.3V. The simulation results of interval type-2 membership function circuit have been done in CMOS 0.35µm technology using Mentor Graphics software. This architecture is composed of Minimum (Min) and Maximum (Max) circuits. The former are used to combine the antecedents of the rules and the later are used to combine the consequents currents of the rule (from the type-2 fuzzifier circuit). These circuits operate in current mode, with a supply voltage of 3.3V. The proposed architecture (which consists of two inputs with two membership functions for each one, four rules, and one output with three membership functions) was validated through Mentor Graphics simulation in a 0.35µm CMOS technology. The Mentor simulation result of the proposed architecture was compared with similar a Type-2 Fuzzy Inference System simulated in Interval Type-2 Fuzzy Logic Toolbox from Matlab.

The procedure was applied during one semester to high school students of two public schools in Guaratinguetá, in the Valley of the Paraíba SP. The methodological approach employed was Action Research, with the involvement of Physics teachers from the partner schools, working together with teachers and students from São Paulo State University (UNESP) – Guaratinguetá Campus. The motivation for the development of the project is the lack of both laboratories and materials for experimental activities observed in Brazilian public schools. In this context, considering the recommendation of the National Curricular Parameters for Secondary Education for the use of technology in the classroom, we have opted for the insertion of educational robotics through the development of a mobile robot in the form of a teaching project. Educational Robotics, besides being a ...

In this paper will be presented other abordagens of implementations, FPGA or ASIC, used for produce systems of control based in the fuzzy logic. FPGA allows to the designer to make future modifications of way more quick and more efficient, when compared with implementations by microprocessors, being that the modifications can be carried out on-board. Another great advantage of the implementation of fuzzy logic controller based in FPGA is the use of some hardware programming language, as VHDL or VERILOG, that becomes the independent project developed of the manufacturer of the programmable device. ASIC also can be developed agreement with the specifications of a data customer, being then possible to optimize the maximum the performance of the system of control.

This architecture is all modulated, thus, it is possible to generate membership functions in triangular or trapezoidal shape. It was developed in order to be used as part of fuzzy microprocessors. An integrated circuit in bipolar technology was developed for architecture verification; so, it can also be implemented in technology CMOS. A description of each block that composes the circuit is done in this paper, as well as a discussion regarding those circuits. The results obtained from these simulations are also discussed. Six modules of the circuit were implemented in the accomplished simulation, what facilitated to generate five membership functions, either triangular or trapezoidal shapes. The results show that the new architecture is fully viable of being accomplished used as part of a fuzzy microprocessor.

The most utilized control methodology, within the artificial intelligent techniques, is based in fuzzy logic. Fuzzy logic controllers consist of the following modules: fuzzification, decision making and defuzzification. Various defuzzification circuits architecture have been proposed in the literature. The efficacy of a fuzzy logic controller depends very much on defuzzification process. This paper aims to present the project for an analog defuzzifier circuit operating in current-mode to be implemented in CMOS 0.35? AMS. From the hardware point of view, the main characteristics of the proposed defuzzifier circuit are simplified architecture, small chip area and low power-supply voltage. The simulation result of each defuzzifier circuit block will be presented: scaling, addition and division. And also, the output current graphic of the complete circuit, compared with theoretical values. All simulation results have been obtained by the use of SPICE software. The proposed circuit in this work is part of a general-purpose fuzzy microprocessor, and can be applied to many control systems, as for example the control of a DC motor

Simulation of Active Control Using Fuzzy Logic Applied to a Pulse Combustor
Journal of the Brazilian Society of Mechanical Sciences, 2002

During the system development, a study of the existing types of control for pulse combustion was carried out and a simulation model was implemented to be used with the package Matlab and Simulink. Blocks which were not available in the simulator library were developed. A fuzzy controller was developed and its membership functions and inference rules were established. The obtained simulation showed that fuzzy logic is viable in the control of combustion instabilities. The obtained results indicated that the control system responded to pulses in an efficient and desirable way. It was verified that the system needed approximately 0.2 s to increase the tube internal pressure from 30 to 90 mbar, with an assumed total delay of 2 ms. The effects of delay variation were studied. Convergence was always obtained and general performance was not affected by the delay. The controller sends a pressure signal in phase with the Rijke tube internal pressure signal, through the speakers, when an increase the oscillations pressure amplitude is desired. On the other hand, when a decrease of the tube internal pressure amplitude is desired, the controller sends a signal 180º out of phase.

The approach is useful in applications where images are used to supply information to specialists who will choose suitable actions. An artificial neural classifier aids a fuzzy decision support system to deal with uncertainty and imprecision present in available information. Advantages of both techniques are exploited complementarily. As an example, this method was applied in automatic focus checking and adjustment in video monitor manufacturing.
