Automating Word with AppleScript

Prior to Office 2008, you could automate repetitive tasks and add entirely new features in Microsoft Word by using Visual Basic macros. Unfortunately, Word 2008 doesn’t support VBA. The good news is that, with a little tinkering, almost anything you could do with a VBA macro in previous versions of Word, you can now do with AppleScript in Word 2008.

  What's in a Mac clone?

  Psystar claims that it’s selling a “generic Mac” for $549 (or $399 without OS X). While such a move seems to violate Apple’s end-user license agreement, it indicates just how the age-old topic of running the Mac OS on non-Apple hardware has mutated. Rob Griffiths explores whether a real Mac is more than the sum of its parts, by building his own OS X-powered machine.
