Remote is a free application that turns iPod touch and iPhone into a remote control for iTunes and Apple TV.
Be a mobile DJ. With Remote, you can control iTunes on your computer or on Apple TV from your iPod touch or iPhone. Play, pause, skip, shuffle. See your songs, playlists, and album art. Update to iTunes 8 and you can create a Genius playlist or edit an existing playlist. And do it all on your iPod touch or iPhone as if you were right in front of your computer. Remote works with your Wi-Fi network, so you can control playback from anywhere in and around your home.
Getting Started
Secure Setup
Setting up Remote is simple and safe. Launch Remote, making sure your iPod touch or iPhone is on the same Wi-Fi network as your computer or Apple TV. Tap Add Library from the Settings menu and a unique passcode appears. Enter the passcode in iTunes or on Apple TV to pair your iPod touch or iPhone securely.*
Intuitive Controls
Getting acquainted with Remote takes almost no time at all. That's because Remote uses the same music playback controls you’re already familiar with on iPod touch and iPhone. Shuffle an album, repeat a song, or skip to the next track as if the music was right on your iPod touch or iPhone.
Search
Want to hear a specific song but don’t want to leave the company of your guests? No problem. With Remote, you can search your entire iTunes music library. Just tap out the name of an artist or an album, select the song, and let the music play.
Playlists
Tap the Genius icon to create a Genius playlist in your iTunes. Tap Refresh for a different result. Or tap New and get a completely different playlist. Edit existing playlists in your iTunes library right from your iPod touch or iPhone. Change the song order with the drag of a finger or delete a song with a tap. It’s your music mixed the way you want it.
Controlling the Show
AirTunes
There’s no better complement to AirTunes than Remote. All your AirPort Express and Apple TV AirTunes speakers are displayed directly on your iPod touch or iPhone. Turn all of them on or turn a few of them off and start streaming music throughout your house from right where you’re standing (or sitting). Learn more about AirTunes
Apple TV
Remote lets you control music, movies, TV shows, and podcasts on your Apple TV from anywhere in your home. Remote also comes in handy when you’re searching for YouTube videos on Apple TV.
