Search for & email contacts in Gmail

You can find your contacts and email them from Gmail.

Find contacts in Gmail

1. Open Gmail.
2. In the top left, click Gmail or Mail.
3. Click Contacts.

Search contacts

1. Go to Google Contacts.
2. In the top search box, type a name, email address, phone number, or other contact details.
3. Click Search .
4. To view details, click a name.

Email contacts

1. Open Gmail.
2. Click Compose.
3. In the "To" field, type the contact’s name or email address.
4. Click the contact you want to email.

Names aren't showing up as I type

When you start typing a contact's name or email in the "To," "Cc," or "Bcc" field, Gmail will auto-complete their information.

1. Check that you’re using a supported browser.
2. If you’re using a supported browser and still having problems, sign out of Gmail.
3. Clear your browser's cache and cookies.
4. Sign in to Gmail again.

Delete emails from auto-complete

To remove emails from the list of automatically suggested contacts in Gmail, you can delete your contacts or delete automatically saved contacts.
