AWS Config pricing

With AWS Config, you are charged based on the number of configuration items recorded and the number of active AWS Config rule evaluations in your account. A configuration item is a record of the configuration of a resource, in your AWS account. A configuration item is a record of the configuration of a resource, in your AWS account. An AWS Config rule evaluation is a compliance state evaluation of a resource, in your AWS account.

Configuration snapshots and configuration history files are delivered to you in the Amazon S3 bucket that you choose, and configuration change notifications are delivered via Amazon Simple Notification Service (SNS). Standard rates for Amazon S3 and Amazon SNS apply. Custom rules are authored using AWS Lambda. Standard rates for AWS Lambda apply. For remediation with AWS Config rules, limits and rates for AWS Systems Manager Automation apply.
Except as otherwise noted, our prices are exclusive of applicable taxes and duties, including VAT, GST and applicable sales tax.

Let’s assume you have the following usage in US East (N.Virginia) Region in a given month.
10,000 Configuration items recorded across various resource types
100 Config rules- with 60 active rules in the month.
    50 Config rules that invoked 500 rule evaluations each
    9 Config rules that invoked 1000 rule evaluations each
    1 Config rule that invoked 10,000 rule evaluations

Cost under the new model

(effective August 1, 2019)

Cost of configuration items

10,000 * $0.003 = $30

Cost of Config rules

50 Config rules that invoked 500 rule evaluations each = 50*500 = 25,000 evaluations.

9 Config rules that invoked 1000 rule evaluations each= 9 *1000 = 9,000 evaluations

1 Config rule that invoked 10,000 rule evaluations

Total evaluations = 25,000 + 9,000 + 10,000= 44,000

First 100,000 evaluations at $0.001 each = $44

Total Config Bill 

$30 + $44 = $74
