Shorten a WordPress.com URL

Last reviewed on April 6, 2026

Every page and post on your WordPress.com site has a wp.me shortlink—a short version of the URL you can share on social media, in messages, or anywhere space is limited. This guide covers how to find, copy, and manage your wp.me shortlinks.

To find the short link for any page or post on WordPress.com, take the following steps:

  1. Visit your dashboard.
  2. Click on Pages or Posts on the left side.
  3. Click on the title of any published page or post to open it in the WordPress editor.
  4. Click on the green “Jetpack” icon in the top-right corner:
An arrow points to the Jetpack icon in the WordPress editor.
  1. Click on the “Shortlink” option.
  2. Click the button labeled “Copy” to copy the link to your device’s clipboard and share it anywhere you like.

When viewing a post or page while logged into your WordPress.com account, you can copy the short link from the Action Bar:

  1. Visit a page or post in your web browser.
  2. Click the “three dots” icon in the action bar at the bottom right of the screen.
  3. Click “Copy shortlink” to copy the link to your device’s clipboard and share it anywhere you like.
The action bar's expanded options show a copy short link option.

This section of the guide applies to sites with the WordPress.com Business and Commerce plan. If you have a Business plan, make sure to activate it. For free sites and sites on the Personal and Premium plans, upgrade your plan to access this feature.

All WordPress.com sites generate wp.me shortlinks for posts and pages by default. On sites with a Business plan or higher, you can turn shortlinks off from your site’s Traffic settings.

To disable or re-enable wp.me shortlinks:

  1. Visit your dashboard.
  2. Navigate to Jetpack → Settings, then click the Traffic tab.
  3. Scroll to the “WP.me Shortlinks” section.
  4. Toggle the setting off to disable shortlinks, or on to re-enable them.
The WP.me Shortlinks toggled on.

The change takes effect immediately. When shortlinks are disabled, the Shortlink option does not appear in the editor or the Action Bar, and new shortlinks are not generated. Existing wp.me shortlinks for previously published posts and pages continue to redirect—disabling the setting does not break links already shared.

Sites on the Free, Personal, or Premium plan do not have access to this toggle. On those sites, wp.me shortlinks are always active.
