In reply to: [WPvivid — Backup, Migration & Staging] Backup File NamesHello @mncdev
Thank you for your feedback.
Regarding custom backup file naming, we have evaluated this feature comprehensively in the past. However, we have decided not to implement it because changing the file naming structure would cause significant compatibility issues with existing backups and the plugin’s restoration logic.
As a backup provider, reliability and stability are always our fundamental priorities. Maintaining a consistent, standardized naming convention ensures that the plugin can always accurately identify, verify, and restore backup chunks without error.

Hello @malthead
Please note that unlike an independent WordPress install, when you create a staging site using WPvivid, it is set up as a subdirectory or subdomain of your live site. Because of this linked structure between a staging site and the live site, the ‘Copy Staging to Live’ option is the only method designed for safely publishing a staging site to live.
Since you migrated the staging site manually, the live site is now incorrectly identifying itself as a staging site and the staging site has lost its connection to the live site. To manually remove the staging site attribute (the orange bar) and clean up the staging data, you can try the following steps:
- Using phpMyAdmin, locate the
optionstable in your live site’s database and delete thewpvivid_staging_dataentry. This will remove the staging site attribute from the live site. - Delete the staging folder if you haven’t, which is located in your root directory or the
wp-contentfolder depending on your settings.

All the best,
Hello @9ball
That is a good question, and it is important to clarify that staging and migration are two distinct workflows in WPvivid.
When you create a staging site using WPvivid, it is created as a subdirectory or a subdomain of your live site, sharing certain server resources or configurations. Because of this linked relationship, “Copy Staging to Live” is the only option designed to safely publish the staging site to live.
The migration feature is intended for standalone-to-standalone transfers. In this context, a dev environment refers to an independent WordPress install rather than the sub-site staging setup.
While using the migration feature on the staging site may be technically possible, we do not recommend it. Doing so can cause configuration issues, such as the staging attribute (the orange bar) appearing on your live site or the staging site losing its connection to the live site.
To summarize, to publish the staging to live, use “Copy Staging to Live.” To move live to a new server or a standalone dev to live, use the migration feature.
We hope this clarifies the best workflow for your project. Please let us know if you have any other questions.
All the best,
Hello @9ball
Because a staging site differs from a regular individual site in its underlying structure, we always recommend using the ‘Copy the staging site to live’ option within the staging plugin. This is the safest way to make the staging site live and avoid unexpected configuration issues.
In your case, if you are sure that the live site is working as expected and the staging site is no longer needed, you can try to delete the staging folder and the corresponding staging database via your hosting panel, we recommend performing a full backup of your live site first to be safe.
