𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐫𝐨𝐨𝐟𝐭𝐨𝐩 𝐬𝐨𝐥𝐚𝐫 𝐏𝐕 𝐨𝐧 𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐰𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧 𝐓𝐮𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐮 𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐜𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐰𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲 SPREP is working with the Government of Tuvalu to assess whether rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) systems have any measurable impacts on the quality of rainwater harvested from rooftops in Funafuti. The initiative supports Tuvalu’s climate commitments under its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) while strengthening understanding of the relationship between renewable energy infrastructure and water security, two national priorities that increasingly share the same rooftop infrastructure. “As we continue to expand rooftop solar installations to meet our NDC targets, it is essential that we fully understand any potential impacts on the quality of the rainwater that our communities rely on every day,” said Director Mr Jaime Ovia. “The findings will provide valuable evidence to guide future policy, investment and infrastructure decisions, ensuring that our transition to clean energy also safeguards the health and wellbeing of the Tuvalu people.” Read full story: https://lnkd.in/ggQ6cjCc #ResilientPacific #RenewableEnergy #CleanEnergy #ndchub #Tuvalu

A key stepping stone towards Armenia is the Twenty-eighth meeting of the Subsidiary Body on Scientific, Technical and Technological Advice taking place in Nairobi Kenya from 27 July to 1 August. This precedes the seventh meeting of the Subsidiary Body on Implementation (SBI-7) from 4 -12 August at the same venue. Topical on the agenda in Nairobi is the first global review of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. Current findings indicate that while global engagement has increased, national efforts remain off track to meet the 2030 goals. “We accept the central finding: the world is not on track, and no target yet shows a fully positive picture. But an honest review must also be honest about who is missing from its evidence,” said Fiji's Permanent Secretary for Environment and Climate Change, Dr. Sivendra Michael. The successes, challenges and aspirations of the Sustainable Waste Actions in the Pacific – Phase 2 (SWAP2) project are being discussed as Pacific members and partners gather for the second Steering Committee Meeting (SCM), at SPREP’s Vailima headquarters. Said Lealaisalanoa Frances Brown Reupena, CEO @Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment Samoa “For Samoa, SWAP2 has delivered practical results in marine litter management, waste audits, used-oil management, public awareness, and capacity building. These activities have strengthened collaboration across government, communities, the private sector, and development partners." The Steering Committee Meeting was opened by Ms. Lealaisalanoa Frances Brown Reupena, CEO of Samoa’s Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment Samoa. Other speakers included SPREP Director General, Mr Sefanaia Nawadra and Ms. Sophie Soejitno, Regional Policy Officer, Pacific Ocean Directorate. SWAP2 works to improve waste infrastructure, build capacity and foster regional collaboration in nine Pacific islands, Fiji, French Polynesia, Kiribati, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu, and Wallis and Futuna.
