Two-thirds of New Mexico high schoolers now can't graduate without learning how money works. Read that again. Great article from the Albuquerque Journal about teachers across #NewMexico spending part of their summer sharpening the saw to teach personal finance. Hat tip to Think New Mexico, Fred Nathan and Mandi Torrez, who have been pushing for this since 2020. The scoreboard: 56 of 89 districts now require the course to graduate, and every high school in the state offers it. And to Professor Charlie Bergman of St. Johns College (Santa Fe), who told the room he wants New Mexico to be the national leader in personal finance education. And he's doing everything in his power to make that a reality. Crime is down across several major categories in Albuquerque—but the numbers don’t tell the whole story. The Fusion Industry Association's first-ever Fusion Supply Chain Trade Show is happening now in Santa Fe. We're proud to sponsor tonight's reception alongside the New Mexico Fusion Trade Association. FIA chose New Mexico for its inaugural trade show for one reason — the fusion supply chain starts here. Last year, we opened our first Build Center in Los Lunas, where we'll construct and assemble the components for our first fusion system. That system will be built in Albuquerque on a site where we'll break ground later this summer. Targeting cancer cells 🧪 Sandia’s patented technology could help produce medical isotopes used in diagnostic imaging and cancer treatment. Eden Radioisotopes, an Albuquerque-based company, has proposed a new facility to create a domestic source of these potentially life-saving radioactive isotopes — something largely sourced from overseas. BlackVe is expanding in Albuquerque, bringing 152 high-paying jobs and growing New Mexico’s role in space and defense innovation. With state and local investment (City of Albuquerque Economic Development Department), the company will build a 50,000-square-foot spacecraft manufacturing facility and help strengthen New Mexico’s advanced manufacturing economy for years to come. What kind of city do we want Albuquerque to be as it grows? That was the question at the heart of the final talk in our Livability Speaker Series, where journalist and author Jerusalem Demsas joined us at the National Hispanic Cultural Center. Her takeaway was a hopeful one: that more neighbors and more housing aren't a burden a community has to carry, they're something to welcome. It's a vision that sits close to our own work every day.
