Interns in Action 👷 From operating equipment to learning from experienced field leaders, Broc Mutterer has spent the summer building a broad understanding of heavy civil construction. A civil engineering student at the University of North Dakota, Broc has worked alongside Project Manager Nicholas McCoy, Structures Foreman Brian Dominik, and other members of the Ames team. Throughout the summer, he has operated a sheepsfoot roller, supported compaction testing efforts, and observed structural construction in the field. These experiences have helped Broc build a deeper understanding of how different phases of heavy civil construction come together, while providing opportunities to learn and problem-solve alongside experienced team members. “As a three-year Ames intern, I’ve gained valuable, hands-on experience with large-scale heavy civil projects,” he says. “Getting to interact and problem-solve alongside Ames coworkers makes my day-to-day both enjoyable and fulfilling.” #AmesConstruction #InternsInAction #InternExperience #TeamAmes

Interns in Action 👷 Construction management student Julia Schafer is getting a firsthand look at how a major water infrastructure project comes together in the field. Working on the Navajo Gallup Water Supply Project near Farmington, New Mexico, Julia has spent time walking the site, operating equipment, and observing the day-to-day coordination required to keep work moving. Through the experience, she is learning how planning, teamwork, and field operations come together to support project success. One of the things that has stood out most to Julia is the people she works alongside each day. “The people you work with make all the difference in how much you enjoy it,” she says. “I love the people I work with.” #AmesConstruction #InternsInAction #InternExperience #TeamAmes

This Fourth of July, as we celebrate America’s 250th anniversary, Medora, North Dakota, welcomes the nation for the grand opening of the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library, and we are proud to have played a part in it. From a new roundabout and a widened bridge over the Little Missouri River to improvements along the 3.2-mile Medora Business Loop, Ames helped enhance safety and traffic flow while complementing the natural beauty of the North Dakota Badlands. The Minnesota and Wisconsin DOTs have chosen a contractor to deliver the $1.4B design-build replacement of the John A. Blatnik Bridge—linking Duluth, Minn., and Superior, Wis. The project, led by MnDOT using a best-value selection process, will modernize a vital freight and commuter corridor. A public meeting is planned for early September to share updated bridge design details.
