The department was officially established by the Maryland Legislature on March 16, 1853. It is organized into nine districts and is responsible for policing 78.3 square miles of land and 7.7 square miles (20 km2) of waterways.

This case is a testament to the tireless work of our detectives and the strong partnerships that help make Baltimore safer every day. For nearly 50 years, Baltimore’s police district boundaries remained unchanged while the city evolved around them. In 2022, BPD launched a data-driven effort to redraw district lines, ensuring patrol coverage, response times, and resources better reflect the communities we serve today. The process evolved into a department-wide digital transformation, from analysts using data to reshape districts to officers validating changes block by block on the ground. It was a simple goal with a powerful impact: getting the right officers to the right place, faster. Just hit decade!!! with the Baltimore Police Department time truly flies. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of serving in several roles throughout this agency, from being an FTO helping train and mentor new officers, to serving as a Community Service Officer attending community meetings and building trust with the residents we serve. I was then honored with the opportunity to lead get promoted and overseeing a drug unit that do proactive enforcement efforts, before transitioning to my current role as an Internal Affairs Sergeant. This agency has blessed me with incredible opportunities for growth and leadership, and I’ve had the honor of working alongside some of the finest police officers in the country.
