Bart Teeter will help facilitate a session all about behavior and decision making around autonomous vehicles; that's Tuesday 7/28 at 1:30 pm PT. Brian Moore will be part of a discussion around national security and how autonomous operations work at the highest level; his talk is Wednesday at 10:30 am PT. Next week, the SAE International Advanced Transportation Summit will bring together a group of leaders for four days of learning about the future of mobility. Our Bot Auto team will be onsite, representing the real-world advances we have made in autonomous trucking this year. Brian Moore will be discussing the hot topic of national security and how we stay protected in an ever-connected world on his panel, "Spies in the Machine? Autonomous Vehicles and National Security" Bart Teeter will help attendees understand how AVs behave with a breakout session about decision making and real situations autonomous trucks encounter. And Dean Degazio will be there to help support the Bot Auto mission around education and safety for autonomous operations. Four days in San Diego will be full of exciting and informative sessions! We don't have a driver shortage. We have a job design problem. Trucking keeps "solving" turnover the same way: bigger bonuses, higher pay. According to the American Transportation Research Institute, driver wages and benefits just crossed $1/mile for the first time. But we are still managing high turnover and empty trucks. If money were truly the issue, we'd have fixed this by now. Brett Suma argues the real problem is the structure of the work: The questions we should be asking become how do we redesign freight networks so drivers want to stay? And how does autonomy become the superpower that unlocks the optimized network to support the driver of tomorrow?

A notable inflection point in freight logistics: Bot Auto has completed what it reports as the first fully driverless, over-the-road commercial truckload — 231 miles from Houston to Dallas, overnight, with no safety driver, remote operator, or in-cab observer, meeting a shipper's time-sensitive delivery window. The significance is less technological than economic and structural. Bot Auto reports a humanless operating cost of $1.89 per mile against an industry benchmark of approximately $2.26 (ATRI), with the load tendered through a third-party logistics broker to serve precisely the overnight, high-consistency capacity that conventional driver networks cover unreliably.
