A federal court has temporarily blocked the enforcement of California's SB 343, delaying the implementation of the state's "Truth in Labeling" requirements while the legal challenge progresses. While this decision affects recyclability labeling requirements, it does not change the broader direction of packaging regulation. Producers, manufacturers, and brand owners should continue monitoring developments closely and preparing for the evolving regulatory landscape. Some recyclable materials are challenging not because they can't be recycled – but because they aren't easy to manage. Polyurethane foam packaging is a good example ♻️ It's light, but it takes up a lot of space – so there's rarely enough volume on-site to justify hauling it for recycling. In collaboration with our customer, we developed a tailored storage solution that aligned with their operational needs, enabling the foam to accumulate over time. The result? Material that was once destined for landfill is now recycled into carpet padding, giving it a productive second life. The best recycling solutions don't always come off the shelf. They start with understanding a customer's operation and designing a process that makes waste diversion practical. #Recycling #SustainableSolutions

Polyurethane foam doesn't weigh much, but it takes up serious space. That's the challenge with diverting it from the landfill: low weight, high volume, and no easy way to accumulate enough for a pickup without it piling up. Our team worked directly with a customer to find a practical solution. Through some trial and error, we developed a storage system that allows them to safely accumulate foam over time until there’s enough volume to transfer for recycling. Now, that material gets a second life as carpet padding instead of taking up space in a landfill. Recycling isn't always straightforward. California's permanent packaging producer responsibility regulations took effect May 1, 2026 and the deadlines are moving fast: 🗓️ June 1: registration w/ CalRecycle or Circular Action Alliance 🗓️ July 1: baseline producer report due 🗓️ Fall 2026: fee assessments begin If you manufacture, brand, import, distribute, or sell packaged goods into California – even without a physical presence here – you may be in scope of SB 54. CalRecycle estimates over 5,700 producers fall under this law. We're not a compliance law firm, but we know how packaging, diversion, and reporting connect in practice.
