CGS was proud to sponsor the Rocket City Trash Pandas’ Warfighter Wednesday game on July 8 — a celebration of service, community, and a whole lot of fun. A special shoutout to Phillip (Phil) Chambers, who helped kick things off in style with an opening pitch that was nothing short of legendary (we’re calling it a strike… and no one can convince us otherwise 😉). Huge thanks to everyone who came out to cheer, connect, and honor our warfighters. Already looking forward to the next one!

Today marks the 100th anniversary of the Lake Denmark Naval Ammunition Depot explosion—an event that forever reshaped what is now Picatinny Arsenal. On July 10, 1926, a lightning strike ignited a fire in an above‑ground magazine, triggering a catastrophic chain of explosions and fires across the New Jersey installation. The devastation was immense: 21 military and civilian personnel lost their lives, dozens more were injured, and 187 of the installation’s 200 buildings were destroyed. Beyond altering Picatinny’s landscape, the tragedy drove critical advancements in ammunition storage practices still in use nationwide today. In the aftermath, two anchors symbolizing the U.S. Naval Powder Depot were recovered from the debris. Recently, one of those anchors was donated back to Picatinny, prompting a special request for Chugach to create a display worthy of its history. Chugach carpenters Stanley Ciesielski and Doug Grayson designed and built a rock‑solid display now showcased in the Garrison Command offices. Bernard Maglioli, who retired at the end of 2025, lent expertise in staining and finishing, giving the piece its polished shine. This project reflects not only exceptional craftsmanship, but also our unwavering commitment to supporting our customer’s mission. By helping preserve this piece of Picatinny’s history, Chugach is honored to contribute to the legacy of an installation that continues to play a vital role in our nation’s defense.
