The Ankeny Police Department Community Engagement Team recently welcomed a new member to the unit, Officer Nicole DePrez. Officer DePrez is a seven-year veteran of the Ankeny Police Department and has served as a Field Training Officer, RAD instructor and Crisis Negotiator with SERT while assigned to patrol. She brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Community Engagement Team, where her focus will shift to strengthening partnerships with multi-housing communities, supporting mental health calls for service and leading public education and outreach events. Please join us in welcoming Ofc. DePrez to her new role within the department!

A new community fiber art project is now on display at AMP in Uptown. The colorful installation was created by regional artist Stephanie Majeran. It is located on the west side of the restroom building and is part of the City’s Uptown Arts initiative. Thank you to the volunteers who helped create the art at the Ankeny Art Center! The City received a $7,500 grant from Bravo Greater Des Moines to bring public art and live performances to Uptown and along the High Trestle Trail in 2026. Programming includes the fiber art exhibit, a temporary art installation and seasonal music and performance artists. Music on the Trail performances are being held throughout the summer at the Northwestern Trailhead with the next one scheduled for Aug. 15, 1 to 3 p.m., featuring music from Lani. The project is designed to bring more activity to public spaces, enhance community events and provide residents and visitors with access to arts and cultural experiences throughout the year. Bravo Greater Des Moines has also helped fund the Northwestern Trailhead, Glow Trail, High Trestle Trail Corridor Public Art Master Plan and lighting beneath the High Trestle Trail underpass at South Ankeny Boulevard, which is planned for later this year.

Work continues on New Horizon Cuisine’s new Ankeny facility, and it’s exciting to see the progress taking shape. One of the most rewarding aspects of economic development is watching local startups grow and reach the point where they need additional space to support their success. New Horizon Cuisine is a great example of that momentum. The company is investing more than $10 million in this new facility, which will more than triple its footprint and create new jobs right here in Ankeny. Investments like this reinforce the strength of our local business community and demonstrate why Ankeny continues to be a great place for companies to start, grow and thrive. The City is proud to be partner on this project and support business expansion in our community. We look forward to seeing New Horizon Cuisine’s continued success and the positive impact this project will have on our community.

Construction is underway on the $25 million expansion of Mrs. Clark’s Foods in Ankeny, a significant investment that highlights the continued growth of our community and the strength of Ankeny’s manufacturing sector. This marks Mrs. Clark’s Foods’ second expansion in just five years, reflecting the company’s ongoing success and commitment to our region. Mrs. Clark’s Foods is a private food and juice manufacturer that, in 2025, utilized raw materials sourced from more than 34,000 acres of soybean fields to produce a portion of its product lines. Investments like this not only support local jobs and economic development but also strengthen connections throughout Iowa’s agricultural and manufacturing industries. The City is proud to be a partner on this project and support business expansion in our community. We’re excited to see this project move forward and look forward to Mrs. Clark’s continued growth in Ankeny.

After more than 20 years of dedicated service, Josh Wiebel and Nelson Castro, both paid-on-call firefighters, will retire from the Ankeny Fire Department (AFD) at the end of the month. They were honored at a ceremony today. Congratulations and thank you both for your professionalism, perseverance, and diligence to the AFD and the people of Ankeny. We wish you the best in retirement!
