It is with deep and profound sadness that the City of Augusta announces the passing of our Assistant City Manager, William “Bill” Post. Bill passed away peacefully on July 6, 2026, surrounded by his family, after courageously battling Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).
Bill brought with him a wealth of experience and a deep understanding of public administration, honed over an impressive 30-year career in municipal and county government. Even after his diagnosis, he remained steadfast in his commitment to public service, demonstrating a tireless work ethic and unwavering focus on the tasks at hand.
Bill will be remembered not only for his professional dedication and sharp intellect, but also for his warmth and mentorship. One of Bill's greatest strengths was how he treated people. Whether navigating a difficult conversation or celebrating a success, he made everyone feel like their voice mattered. He listened first, led with empathy, and never missed an opportunity to recognize the hard work and accomplishments of others.
"Words cannot adequately express the loss we are feeling," said City Manager Jared Mills. "Bill was a trusted colleague, mentor, and friend to so many. His wisdom, compassion, creativity, and unwavering commitment to Augusta have left the city stronger than he found it. But perhaps his greatest lesson was that our work is only one part of who we are. Bill reminded us, every day, that our greatest accomplishments are found in our families, our friendships, and the people we love. He was immensely proud of his wife and children, and there wasn't a conversation that didn't include sharing one of their latest milestones or accomplishments. That perspective shaped the way he led and the way he lived. Our hearts are with his wife, son, daughter, and entire family during this incredibly difficult time."
The City of Augusta extends its deepest condolences to Bill's family, friends, and all those whose lives were touched by his leadership, service, and kindness. His legacy will continue to be felt throughout our organization and our community for years to come.
