Through my Chicago Youth Works initiative, our unique Chicago Department of Streets and Sanitation Laborers Trainee Program is setting up the next generation of workers for success and full-time employment with the City of Chicago. In partnership with LIUNA Laborers' Local 1001 union, these recent Chicago Public Schools graduates will have the opportunity earn almost $90,000 after three years of employment. This Workers' Rights Week, we came together to celebrate the next cohort of graduates, and our newly increased minimum wage of $17.05/hour that now also applies to youth employment programs.
