July is Parks and Recreation Month, and we are thankful for the dedicated professionals behind Marietta’s parks, programs, and events. This week, we recognize the City’s Parks, Recreation, and Facilities skilled trades and facilities maintenance team for the important work they do to care for every City owned space.

Congratulations to our City of Marietta staff members who graduated from the EXCEL Management Development Program! Through this program, facilitated by the UGA Carl Vinson Institute of Government, our staff continue to grow as leaders while making a meaningful impact to the service we provide our community.

The City of Marietta recognizes and thanks our Municipal Court Clerks for their dedicated service to the community during Georgia Municipal Court Clerks Week. Their hard work and attention to detail play an essential role in supporting our local court system, public safety, and the quality of life in Marietta. We are grateful for the important work they do each day to serve our citizens and help keep our Municipal Court running smoothly.

During National Public Works Week, the City of Marietta’s Public Works Department recognized team members who have gone above and beyond in service to our community. Our incredible staff is one of the many reasons Marietta Public Works is nationally accredited through the American Public Works Association. Of more than 40,000 public works departments in the United States and Canada, fewer than 1% have earned this prestigious accreditation. Marietta is also one of only two fully accredited public works departments in the State of Georgia. Marietta continues to grow as a center for the arts, drawing visitors and future residents, and bolstering a thriving ecosystem of artists, experiential businesses, restaurants and more. Fostering connection and synergy between our art practices and partners is increasingly important. This quarter, our Economic Development team met with studios and artists to learn more about Marietta's art business' success and growth opportunities.  This meeting continues our series of 'Business Talks' roundtable meetings held throughout the year as a way to gain insights from Marietta's business community, collaborate on strategies, and connect for community success. During Building Safety Month, the City of Marietta recognizes the importance and recognition that the city's growth and strength depends on the safety and economic value of the homes, buildings, and infrastructure that serve our citizens, both in every day and in times of disaster. This is achieved through the dedicated work of our Building Safety and Fire-Prevention officials. Their year-round commitment and vigilance help ensure buildings throughout our community are constructed safely and meet the standards that protect residents and businesses. During Public Works Week, we thank our Public Works staff for their dedicated service and the essential work they do each day to help keep Marietta running strong. This year's theme “Rooted in Service, Powered by Community” acknowledges that the roots of service run deep in public works. It’s what has propelled public works innovations that have helped our communities evolve into places where people can lead lives of purpose and possibility. Some work, like building roads and bridges, is highly visible, while other public works contributions, like maintaining water and sewer systems, are sometimes hidden from view. Together, these efforts form the foundation of thriving communities, reminding us that every project, seen or unseen, powers the connection between service and the people it supports. #NPWW

Congratulations to the Marietta History Center on receiving the 2026 Preservation Award from Cobb Landmarks! For 30 years, the Marietta History Center has preserved and shared the stories of Marietta and Cobb County through its dedication to local history, artifacts, and education. Congratulations to the staff and volunteers whose stewardship continues to preserve these important stories for future generations.
