  • Not to be all "back in my day..." 😅 but a quick dig through some dusty records tells us Billings had just over 𝟮𝟬𝟬 𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗲𝘀 of water main back in 𝟭𝟵𝟴𝟬, when the city was home to roughly 𝟲𝟱,𝟬𝟬𝟬 people. Fast forward to today, our population has basically doubled, and we are now sitting at 𝟱𝟬𝟬+ 𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗲𝘀 of underground water mains, all working 24/7 so you can shower, do laundry, and make dinner without a second thought. Some of those pipes, as you can imagine, were built for a Billings that simply doesn't exist anymore. As we bring pipes of varying ages, materials, and sizes up to modern standards, here's what that means for you: 🚿 Better water pressure for the neighborhood 🚒 Stronger fire protection with increased fire flow 🛠️ Fewer leaks and water main breaks 🏡 A more reliable water system for generations to come Probably not the flashiest summer infrastructure glow-up... but definitely one you'll notice every time you turn on the tap🚰 #BillingsPublicWorks #WaterMainReplacement #PipeBursting #Infrastructure #BillingsMT

  • 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗡𝗘𝗪 𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗻 𝗛𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝗻 𝗕𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝗴𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗱𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗹𝘆 𝗰𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗲. A few highlights of the latest: 🔌 Lots of electrical & plumbing work is underway inside the plant building. 🌊The intake and flow control infrastructure on the BBWA has been installed thanks to a great partnership that kept the community's best interests front and center. 🚰Pump stations and pipelines are in placed to provide more reliable water service. 🚜 Major earth work at the north reservoir continues to shape the site. 🚶♀️ A new pedestrian tunnel under Hesper Rd now safely connects the north and south reservoirs. Looking through it today, you can literally see the light at the end of the tunnel✨ Process testing will begin once the electrical and plumbing work is wrapped up, tentatively in late 2026. We're excited to celebrate with the community once the new water treatment plant is online, and we can't wait to show you around!🎀✂️ #BillingsPublicWorks #BuiltToLast #CityOfBillings #DrinkingWater #Infrastructure

  • Did someone say “𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗽𝘀”? 😅 Yep... it’s chip sealing season in Montana again~ 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗽𝘀? Chip seal helps extend the life of a road by 𝟳+ 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 while costing about 𝟭/𝟯 as much per mile as a traditional asphalt overlay. For a couple of days after chip application, the road surface may feel a little... crunchy😅 Loose chips are a normal part of the process, so please slow down while driving on them. Before long, loose chips will be swept up, and a final layer of oil called fog seal will lock in the embedded chips and leave behind a smoother, safer, and longer lasting road in our Montana climate. 🦺 If you see crews in high-vis gear surrounded by orange cones, they're working one lane at a time to keep traffic moving and avoid full road closures whenever possible. Please slow down through work zones. A few extra seconds helps keep workers safe while they make Billings better ✨ #BillingsPublicWorks #CityofBillings #SlowDownForTheCrew #roadwork #betterroadsahead

  • Your porch should smell like summer. Not a stinky pond... 😅 Neighbors near the Annandale stormwater retention pond couldn’t agree more. Stormwater ponds do important work~🌧 They collect runoff from neighborhoods when it rains, letting sediment, leaves, grass clippings, and debris settle to the bottom instead of flowing through the stormwater system into the Yellowstone River🐠 The occasional downside? Decaying organic material + algae + summer heat = some truly unforgettable odors for nearby residents 🫢 We usually tackle cleanouts in the winter when frozen ground can support heavy equipment. Yet this year's mild winter had our crew improvising. After pumping out the water, they laid geogrid mats to stabilize the muddy surface, built a temporary bridge for equipment access, and scraped out 3 to 4 feet of built-up sediment and debris. An aeration system was also added to help keep the water moving, reduce stagnation, and improve overall pond health 🦆🌿 The pond is continually filled up with rain, now with capacity restored, water quality is improved which means porch season is back on the table this summer for the neighbors~☀️ 🫶One easy way everyone can help is to keep litter, grass clippings, leaves, and other organic debris out of gutters and storm drains. What goes into the storm system often ends up in our ponds and, eventually, the Yellowstone River. Thank you for being a good neighbor Billings! #BillingsPublicWorks #CityOfBillings #Stormwater #PublicWorks #Infrastructure #BehindTheScenes

Those honks you hear are not random. They're signals between the milling operator and truck drivers to keep everything moving in sync. 🦺 𝗣𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 – Two operators walk alongside the paver, making adjustments with hand controllers as fresh asphalt is laid. Others rake and smooth the edges for a seamless finish. 🦺 𝗥𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 – The roller vibrates, rolls, and compacts the asphalt until it's smooth and flush with the existing road. What's really cool is that the millings don't go to waste ♻️ They're stockpiled and repurposed for other City projects like alleys, gravel streets, and landfill roads🧡 #BillingsPublicWorks #BillingsMT #MillingAndPaving #BetterRoadAhead

Never a boring day at our award winning Water Reclamation Facility! 🤩 Take a look at what goes on behind the scenes during our annual bioreactor maintenance⭐ Each of the four bioreactors holds almost 3 million gallons of the entire city's "contribution" every time someone flushes, washes their hands, showers, or does laundry. The natural biological process that turns wastewater into safe, non-potable water is truly fascinating. What’s even cooler is that the water treated right here at the plant is put to good use cleaning and maintaining the very bioreactors that helped treat it! Check out our open positions - https://lnkd.in/gtrm6fB8 #BillingsPublicWorks #JoinOurTeam #BillingsMT #ServeYourCity #WaterReclamation #WasteWaterTreatment
