🚀 Something shifted this week in Leipzig. I just came back from the 1st European Spatial Computing Healthcare Summit, and I'm still processing what I witnessed. With my partners Steny Solitude and Florent Morin, we walked into a room filled with some of the most visionary minds in medicine and for the first time, I felt it clearly: we are not alone anymore. Using #AppleVisionPro in the operating room is no longer a dream. It's happening. Right now. All over the world. In Europe and in USA. Hearing surgeons like Tommy Korn, MD, Randy D'Amico, David Baskin, Andrew Gordon, Patrick R Reardon, Jaime A Carvajal, M.D, Christophe Panthier, Bobby Korn, MD, PhD share their real-world stories gave me chills. These aren't demos anymore. This is surgery, transformed. I had the privilege of presenting the work we do at ClearSurgery across 10 different specialties. 500 surgeries completed. Kudos to the innovative surgeons that made this possible. And then there was Kathryn Isaac, MD, FRCSC, MPH 🙏 Using Vision Pro to guide breast reconstruction after cancer. I don't have the words. You are a leader and an inspiration. We want to build the future with you. 🎉 Another exciting milestone for the future of cataract surgery and 🥽 spatial computing. Congratulations to my co-investigator, Dr. Bishoy Said, on completing his first cataract surgery cases using Apple Vision Pro as part of the Spatial Computing Ocular Microsurgery IRB study at Sharp HealthCare. The future of cataract surgery and spatial computing will be built through teams, collaboration, and patient safety-focused research. 😊 Dr. Said serves as Chief of Ophthalmology at Sharp Rees-Stealy Medical Group. Connecting the dots for Sharp’s journey in spatial computing. ✅ February 2024: This journey started two years ago when Sharp HealthCare invested in a fleet of Apple Vision Pro devices to help launch its Spatial Computing Center of Excellence. ✅ April 2024: Along the way, Sharp collaborated closely with industry partners, in the early exploration and development of VisionOS & AI applications for ophthalmic surgery. ✅ January 2025: Sharp hosted the first healthcare spatial computing summit focused on VisionOS at the Sharp Innovation Center in San Diego. ✅ August 2025: Sharp HealthCare creates first Chief Spatial Computing Officer position to validate spatial computing’s importance in healthcare. ✅ April 1, 2026: Our current clinical research (Sharp IRB approved) investigates the integration of: ⚫️ Apple Vision Pro (M5) ⚫️ Zeiss Artevo 850 3D digital microscope ⚫️ the ClearSphere Surgery spatial computing application by ClearSurgery to evaluate whether these technologies can be used safely and reliabily during cataract surgery (ophthalmic microsurgery) without patient & surgeon harm and disruption to surgery OR workflow. ⚫️ 4K stereoscopic ⚫️ wireless ⚫️ real-time, surgical visualization platform with no perceptible latency. 🚀 The potential implications of spatial computing are significant, not only for the future of eye surgery, but possibly for microscopic surgery across multiple medical specialties as well. 🧐 As our study nears completion, we look forward to sharing the results of this work through peer-reviewed publication in the very near future and at the upcoming European Spatial Computing Summit this summer in Leipzig, Germany.
