One of the best parts of every CoCap training is learning from the people in the room. We asked Mapping Partner Network participants: What's one piece of advice you'd give another partnership trying to identify the strengths and opportunities in their collaborative network? Here's what they shared: • Be patient. This work takes time. • Look beyond traditional partners. • Don't overlook qualitative insights. • Talk with as many partners and stakeholders as possible. • Listen deeply, clarify assumptions, and meet partners where they are. • Consider using a logic model or systems diagram before mapping. These responses reinforce something we believe at CoCap: meaningful network maps don't start with software; they start with conversations, relationships, and curiosity. One of the biggest misconceptions about network science is that it's all about creating beautiful maps. In last week's Mapping Partner Networks training, we explored how network mapping and network analysis work together to generate strategic insights. 🗺️ Network maps help us see the structure of relationships. They reveal patterns that are difficult to spot in a spreadsheet alone. 📊 Network analysis helps us measure those patterns, allowing us to identify influential partners, collaboration gaps, disconnected groups, opportunities for stronger coordination, and much more. Neither tells the whole story on its own. Instead, combine visual exploration with quantitative analysis to yield the most valuable insights for strengthening partnerships and improving collaborative strategy. A year ago, I decided to take a leap. I walked away from a professional path I felt obligated to follow and bet on one that felt more aligned with who I am and the impact I wanted to make. It has been one of the best decisions of my life. Over the last year, I've built Collaborative Capacity Co (CoCap) with a simple mission: to help mission-driven leaders learn, plan, and align for collaborative systems change. Every training, workshop, and consultation has reminded me that when we invest in collaborative capacity, we strengthen communities. It's just getting started, and I can't wait to share more soon. Has it been easy? Nope. Building two businesses has required more courage than I imagined. But it's also brought more joy, purpose, creativity, and fulfillment than I ever expected. My mental and physical health have improved because my work is aligned with what energizes me. If you're standing at the edge of an exciting decision that scares you, don't dismiss it just because it's risky. Prepare thoughtfully. Ask for help. Manage the uncertainty. Then give yourself permission to pursue the work that lights you up. Life is too short to spend it on work that drains you. Here's to choosing courage, following your curiosity, and giving the world the most authentic version of yourself.
