The Comptroller’s Office welcomed the Flushing Chinese Business Association (FCBA) Youth Leader Council this morning. These outstanding high school students are spending their summer, touring various city and state agencies as part of a seven-week leadership and career exploration program. Students learn about how government works while exploring careers in law, healthcare, engineering and public service.

July’s extreme heat showed how vulnerable 🪫 NYC’s power grid has become, increasing the risk of outages and higher energy costs. During back-to-back heatwaves, Con Edison reported more than 80,000 outages across the five boroughs during a two-day period. 🔋 A new report from the NYC Comptroller’s Office, “Meeting New York City’s Energy Demand Challenge,” outlines how city-owned land can help strengthen the grid through solar and battery storage. Building a coordinated portfolio of clean energy projects, cutting permitting delays, modernizing outdated codes, and attracting investment will be essential to meeting New York’s growing electricity demand. 📈 NYC's cash outlook is stronger than expected. The city started the fiscal year with $16.2 billion in cash, nearly $3.5 billion more than previously projected, thanks to stronger-than-expected revenues driven in large part by Wall Street and accounting moves that have increased near-term liquidity. That is good news, but a healthy cash balance today isn't enough. We still need smart, long-term planning to keep New York City financially prepared for whatever comes next. A new chapter for West Harlem. The ribbon has been cut on a new public walkway, marking the completion of Janus Property's Innovation Triangle–West Harlem Factory District master plan. Connecting the 1 million-square-foot campus to the 125th Street corridor and extending through to West 128th Street, this new gateway reflects the power of community collaboration and public-private partnership to create a more connected neighborhood and strengthen West Harlem as a hub for innovation, arts, culture, and opportunity. NYC Comptroller Mark Levine was proud to join community leaders and partners to celebrate this milestone.

New York City's economy continues to show resilience, but today's strength doesn't guarantee tomorrow's stability.    Higher tax revenues helped balance this year's budget 💰, driven by AI 📱, Wall Street 🏦, and a strong real estate market 🏠. Yet many New Yorkers are still feeling the affordability crisis, and the City faces a projected $6–8 billion budget gap next year. Preparing now is the best way to protect New Yorkers in the years ahead.   

Nonprofits and businesses doing work for the city are left waiting to get paid for months or even years. Today, NYC Comptroller Mark D. Levine launched the first-ever Late Contracts Dashboard, a new tool that tracks contract registration delays, one of the biggest factors contributing to late payments, in real time. NYC Comptroller Mark D. Levine Levine joined striking workers at the Fairfield by Marriott Manhattan Times Square and Four Points by Sheraton Midtown. After voting to join Hotel and Gaming Trades Council, AFL-CIO in 2022, workers have been fighting for a fair contract but say they have been met with anti-union tactics from their employer. They deserve fair pay, good benefits and respect. Hotel owners must return to the bargaining table in good faith and recognize that it’s the workers who make NYC’s tourism industry thrive. #laborrights #workersrights #NYCLabor
